Very dissapointed and angry By Beyond the page i had hoped this writer had grown and stopped using the formula of abused female who turns around and falls in love with her captor.i am also tired of the constant games and challenges robin has in his books. There is a lot of potential and fascinating aspects to his stories but alas they in the end make me very angry and bored. There were moments i thought that this character would be different, then after being fierce, standing up for herself and voicing her anger she would concede and ask for a hug!Really?????

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Only borrowed! By Kindle Customer I'm glad I only borrrowed this book. I've gotten tired of the skewed "gamus" in this writer's books. This 1 is the same basic plot as the first Fox book. Only the names have changed, the lying, manipulation & emotional abuse of the "sybmissive" character has continued. I'll not be getting another title by this writer.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Disgusting By Amazon Customer I can honestly say I've never read a book like this. The only reason it didn't get a one star is because, from an objective view, if a story can make someone feel as angry and disgusted as I did it must be doing something "right." Other than the main character, the people in this book were straight up VILLAINS. Seriously bad people who did not deserve happiness in the end. Sapphire wasn't just a doormat, she was the epitome of a doormat. She did not react to what was happening in a rational human way. Conversations would basically go like this:Alien: "Yes, I totally lied to you. We cheated to ensure you had no way to win, we are probably going to mentally and physically abuse you for our own amusement, and you're probably never going to see your family and friends ever again."Sapphire: "Darn that sucks! Here give me a hug with your tentacles to make me feel better!"One thing they talk about is the rampant xenophobia amongst the humans, and quite frankly after seeing the way the aliens behaved, it's totally justified. I wish I could wash this book from my mind.

They went through so much to be together. Although you hate Gatsby for a little while, he redeems himself. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great plot! By Anja 3.5 StarsFreed by Him, the debut novel by G.L. Chapple, is the first part of a duet in her “Fighting Free Series”. It’s the story of overcoming your fears, letting go of your past, and start trusting again.Lena Nichols is a young woman who went through hell, only to come out on the other side stronger. She’s quite badass, while still expressing a vulnerability. During the first few weeks at University, Lena experiences something horrible that sends her running back home. Deciding not to go back to University, she starts to work for her father’s company—working her way up from the bottom. During a day of volunteering at the woman’s shelter, she meets Nate Masters, a former soldier, turned police officer.I like both characters, Lena and Nate. They have great chemistry and an attraction that is pretty hot. From the prologue, you know that Lena is not your average woman; she went through hell, which made her weary to trust. But Nate is determined to gain her trust and break down her walls. However, outside forces are trying to ruin what the two of them are building.I do like Freed by Him. The plot is great and well-thought out—the characters are likeable and engaging. However, sadly, I found the writing somewhat lacking. The story has so much potential. While I wish the writing, as well as editing, would have been better, it’s not to say I won’t read the next book in the series. I definitely will. The characters and plot have left me curious as to what will happen next.A warning though, the book does ends in a cliffhanger.*Received this ARC in exchange for an honest review*

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. good debut By Helena (Bookhooked) What I didn’t realise when I selected this book for review was its part of a series and there is an absolute stinker of a cliffhanger at the end of this book……This book is a difficult book to review as I did struggle with parts of this book and I will say that it was almost a DNF for me as a seasoned reader who reads up to 5 books a week mostly for review purposes I look for that something special in a book. The beginning and prologue to this book was great it sucked me in and as a british woman I could relate to the characters and the language and it was refreshing to read the words, mum, knickers and all those Britishisms that I miss when reading the Americanised books.20-50% of the book really did feel quite flat and I found the characters annoying and monotonous. I was about to put the book down when things really did pick up….the book started to flow and the story really started to grab me and I felt the author had really found a good grip on the story and I feel that these feelings should be expressed as this is my personal view and my point is that the book ended up being really good and my potential DNF ended up as a 3 ½ to 4 star read.Nate is a great character, I loved him and his vulnerabilities and his attitude towards life and his alpha caveman persona and I felt him a great match for Lena who is a ball buster with a vulnerable side and I really liked their dynamic as a couple..I really do recommend this novel and I think it rocked as a debut, I feel this author has fabulous potential and I’m looking forward to the continuation to this series.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Knocked it Out of the Park! Love this story! By Sara Miller I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review. After surviving a brutal attack Lena leaves college behind and returns to her hometown to begin a new life. Becoming the strong, successful CEO of her family's company. She has it all, a successful career, a lovely home, a great relationship with her family and friends. Everything except for someone to share her life and love with. In comes Nate, after experiencing some betrayal after returning early from a deployment he has a major chip on his shoulder about relationships in general. He quits the armed forces and joins the local police force. (Can we say, alpha police officer hero? I know a lot of you are gonna love that premise just on that fact but Nate is so much more than a piece of meat) he's a strong, compassionate man who yes sometimes gets pushy and states things bluntly (like I said he's a guy!) but he perfectly balances Lena. They meet up after Nate responds to a call at a refuge for victims of domestic violence. And Lena feels that initial spark, she has been avoiding any personal relationships with men after her attack but I think seeing Nate easily interacting with the women who have brutalized by their partners makes her believe she could trust him, and trust her heart to give in to the pull of attraction. Now, that's not to say she makes it easy on him or they just instantly fall in love. There is a definite journey to love in this book and some speed bumps along the way. But it is definitely a journey worth taking. It's a unique story-- from the writing style (which I loved! It wasn't all Americanized down, and held some of the slang words and words us in America don't use near enough in my opinion) to the characters. They are both strong characters so they are on equal footing with each other so that power dnyamic is fun to see. In most romance novels there is a bit of a power difference maybe not totally overt but it almost always happens. With GL's writing style she gives them both a strong personality, both tops in their respective fields and a few flaws that serve to make them incredibly interesting. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next!

There was a great flow between the books and could be combined into one book. I did not put this down and reread for fun. Excellent book exploring Omega rights and the prejudices among the paranormal society for Omegas and Alpha women. The plot is something in which we can relate in our current societies. Colin and Tomm are adorable as Omegas and you can see why they inspire such love and devotion in their Alpha's Blaine and Detective Misoni. If you are into intrigue, drama, hot hot hot sex, a man standing up for his mate, political intrigue, business rivalries and competition this this book will exceed your expectations. The author needs to do a little editing, but it did not take away from enjoying the books. Well done!

I like the concept/story, for the most part (it could be a little cheesy/rushed at times), and I like the MC's in the story as well. I hope this book will be revised, or at the very least all future writings by this author will be seriously combed through.

I will say there are a few typos in the books but I let them go because the story was pure romance to me!! The characters were strong & the story line was nicely developed and thought out. This is a trilogy that you read on a cold night to keep you warm lol.

It’s only so much a girl can take from the man that was supposed to protect her heart, worship her body and conquer her soul. Ty used to be that man for Lyric, but that changed for them, so long ago. See, Ty has drug Lyric through the mud for the very last time. She's tired and fed up! She refuses to continue to live life to the beat of his drum, and she has been put through hell at his hands for the very last time. She is bent but whether Ty believes it or not; Lyric is far from broken! After becoming free from him, the lines between faith and despair began to blur. Her faith is tested; she feels lost and confused, and mostly she's afraid. Lyric knows that there is a long road ahead of her, which won’t be easy, but she has people in her life that she knows genuinely love her and will help her through this turbulence time in her life. Delusional, Ty believes that he's dealing with the same insecure Lyric that he’s used to. Time apart will make her miss me, and she’ll come running back home where she belongs, or so Ty thought. What he failed to realize was, Lyric was a changed woman! No longer timid, no longer afraid of him. When he realizes that getting her back would be a harder task than he originally thought, he devises a plan. Ty selfishly stalks her, from one place to another in hopes that he could get her to change her mind. After seeing Lyric and Blessing together, and her appearing to have moved on, the green-eyed monster rears its ugly head. Ty’s jealous and enraged, and he won't stop until he gets her back! Blessing loves Lyric, and all he wants from her is to want him just as much as he wants her, but he won’t force it. On the outside looking in, everything is just that but he doesn’t feel it. She tugs at his heartstrings, pulling him in so close, only to shut him down. However, Lyric isn’t ready to give him the one thing she treasures most; her heart. She’s guarded, but he’s patient and tries to show her that he’ll always be there for her. One things for sure, though, if she doesn’t want to be his after all he has done to prove himself; he will be forced to move on.

Ledford As with the other two Tesla books, The Chemistry of Death features intriguing subplots including high-tech toys, and most fascinating--cutting edge technology intent on re-training the brain. Fascinating and intense, some of this full-throttle thriller takes place in the tunnels beneath NYC.The read is at times terrifying, because the main plot focuses on a brilliant hero, Joe Tesla, in constant agony, trapped in a brain he cannot "fix" as he faces his fears, with the aid of his four-footed sidekick Edison.Cantrell is the mistress of suspense. A writer of the highest quality and imagination, who never ceases to amaze with her command of language and prowess for the arc of suspense. As with the entire series, this one is a must read.

I've read all three of these books separately, and I was delighted to see them packaged as a set... just in time for the gift-giving season! All three books are fast-paced, and you quickly get drawn into the characters, especially Joe Tesla and his service dog Edison. Due to the agoraphobia he mysteriously suffers, Joe is largely trapped beneath the streets of New York. You're introduced to the underground world of the subway tunnels and the fascinating history behind them. In all three books, Joe stumbles across mysterious happenings and attempts to solve crimes that at times end up being interwoven with his own fate. Don't hesitate to buy these books... you'll be glad to have all three!

This is an excellent price, and a great value! All three of these books are rapidfire page turners! And yes, I used another Exclamation point!!The writing voice is fresh and engaging as well as the plot. Characters so vivid that they literally jump from the page. (You'll get to learn who Edison is—my favorite character) So, again, I implore you with another exclamation point, to purchase this great value!!

Luke Bowman drew back on the reins of the draft horses pulling the large bobsled. The massive gray Percherons stopped, but they tossed their shaggy heads, making the harness bells jingle. They were eager to finish the task and head home. Their snorts sent duel puffs of white mist into the cold November air. Luke watched in disbelief as a snowmobile with two riders continued to barrel toward the frozen river winding through the snow-covered valley below his father's cornfield.Noah, Luke's youngest brother, leaned on his ax handle as he stood behind the driver's seat. "I remember when you did it on Jim Morgan's snowmobile. More than once. That looks like the same machine."It did look like the same machine, but Luke doubted it was his Englisch friend aboard. More than likely it was Jim's younger brother Brian riding into trouble. "We never crossed this early in the year. The ice isn't thick enough. It won't hold them."Noah pulled his scarf up to cover his face. "This cold snap has been bitter even for late November. Maybe the ice is thicker than you think."Luke didn't mind the cold. His stint in prison made him cherish every moment he could spend out in the open. "It would have to be this cold a lot longer to freeze running water."He and Noah had come out to gather a load of firewood from the stand of trees along the river. Four inches of fresh snow from the night before made easy pulling for the team. The sled was three-quarters full of logs lashed together, and the men were on their way home.Luke watched the snowmobilers a second longer, then he turned the horses toward the river. Noah almost lost his balance on the flat sled at the unexpected move and had to grab hold of the seatback to keep from falling off. "What are you doing?""We're gonna pull those fools out of the water unless they drown before we reach them."The red-and-white machine didn't stop. It hit the river's edge at a fast clip and traveled a full fifty feet out onto the ice before the front end broke through, spilling the riders. Luke shouted at the team and slapped the reins, sending the horses into a fast trot across the snow-covered field, knowing he might be too late. If the riders were dragged under the ice by the current, they would drown. One of the snowmobile riders had been thrown clear of the open water. He lay sprawled facedown on the ice. The second rider was desperately trying to claw his way out of the river but the edge of the ice kept breaking in front of him. The snowmobile teetered precariously, half in and half out of the water as it hung by the rear tread."Whoa, fellas." Luke drew the horses to a stop at the riverbank. He saw the first rider trying to stand. It was a young boy."Help! Somebody help us!"Luke shouted to the boy struggling to get to the other rider. "Lie down! Spread your weight out on the ice!"Tossing the lines to Noah, Luke jumped off the sled. From the toolbox under the seat, he grabbed his ax along with a coil of rope and started toward the river. The boy was following Luke's orders. He lay down and wiggled toward the rider in the water. He grasped his buddy, but Luke saw he was too small to pull the bigger boy to safety.Luke quickly tied a loop around his waist as Noah joined him at the river's edge. "I should go. I'm smaller."Luke considered it for a second then shook his head. "I'd rather drown than face Mamm and tell her I let you get killed. Take a hitch around that tree so you can pull me back if I go through. The current is strong in this curve.""Don't make me tell Mamm I let you drown.""I'll do my best. Hang on, boys, I'm coming!" Luke hacked a long branch from a nearby tree and stepped out on the ice. The thick layer of fresh snow made it hard to see where he was putting his feet. He used the branch to feel his way, making sure the ice was solid until he got near the two boys. At that point, he lay down and edged toward them. The cold bit through his pants and gloves as he crab-scuttled along."Hurry!" the little one shouted, looking over his shoulder.Luke recognized him. "Alvin Swartzentruber, are you okay?""Help me, Luke." The fourteen-year-old stayed sprawled on the ice, holding on to the other rider.Every time Luke thought he could move faster, the ice cracked with a sickening sound beneath him. Would it hold? He couldn't help the boys if he went through, too. Finally, he worked his way to within a few feet of them and stopped, not wanting to add his weight to their precarious spot. "I thought you had better sense than this, Alvin.""I reckon I didn't today.""I reckon not. Who you got with you?""It's Roy. Hurry, Luke, I can't hold him.""You can. I'm almost there. Roy, can you hear me?" Roy was Alvin's older brother. Luke knew them well. He knew their sister, Emma, even better, or he had once. They didn't speak to each other these days."Help." Roy's voice was barely audible through his chattering teeth. His lips were tinged with blue and his eyes were wild with fear.Luke was close enough to reach them with the branch. He slid the end past Alvin. "Hang on to this, Roy, and let go of your brother."He was afraid the bigger boy would pull the smaller one in if he went under.Roy grasped the limb with first one hand and then the other. "I—I got it."Luke needed room to pull Roy free. "Alvin, roll away from the hole and go to my brother. Stay on your hands and knees until you get close to the shore. Follow my trail. The ice was strong enough to hold me—it should hold you."With the younger boy headed to safety, Luke inched closer to Roy. He heard the ice beneath him groan.I'm not ready to meet you, Lord, but if this is the reason You got me out ofprison and put me here today, at least help me save this boy first. Don't give Emma one more reason to hate me.He forced his thoughts away from Emma and the heartache he had caused her. "Roy, I'm gonna slip a loop of rope over you. You're gonna have to get it under your arms. Can you do that?""I think so.""Goot." Luke worked the rope off over his head and shoulders and prepared to lay the loop over Roy. "Is…Alvin…safe?"Luke glanced back. The boy was climbing the bank to where Noah stood with the rope snubbed around a tree. "He's fine. You will be, too, in a minute.""I can't…hold on. Can't…feel…my hands." Roy started to sink."Don't give up."The boy's head went under. Luke made a grab for him, plunging his hands into the frigid water.Emma looked up in relief when she heard a horse and buggy come into the yard. Rising from her quilting frame, she crossed to the window. Her father should've been back an hour ago. She was anxious to hear what his doctor had told him about the fatigue he couldn't shake. Her father, Zachariah Swartzentruber, had always been a big man. He stood six feet tall, but she hadn't noticed until this moment how his clothes seemed to hang on his frame now or how bent he was becoming. He moved slowly, as if his actions were painful or difficult as he got out of the buggy. She hoped the English doctor had discovered what was wrong and prescribed some medicine to make her father better. She held open the door as he came up the walk. "How was your trip, Daed?""It was a long way. The traffic gets worse every time I must go into town. The foolish Englisch rush past without a care in their big cars."Their little Amish community of Bowmans Crossing was more than five miles off the state highway. Even so, the traffic in the area was increasing, as were the accidents involving buggies and cars. She waited until her father took a seat at the kitchen table. "What did the doctor have to say?""Is there any kaffi??""Ja, I made a pot about an hour ago." Going to the stove, she pulled a brown mug from the shelf overhead and filled it to the brim with the strong brew from her coffeepot."Danki." He accepted the cup from her hand and stirred in a heaping spoonful of sugar. He sat staring into the liquid, stirring slowly.Fear crept into Emma's heart. It wasn't like her father to be so quiet. Something was wrong. "What did the doctor have to say, Daed?"Her father took a sip of coffee. "This is goot. You always could make good kaffi. Not like your mother. Her kaffi was always weak as dishwater."Emma swallowed hard. It was unusual for her father to speak about his deceased wife. The Amish rarely talked about loved ones who had passed on. Her worry spiked, but she knew better than to keep pressing him. When he was ready, he would tell her what the doctor had discovered. She poured herself a cup and carried it to the table. "Mamm was a frugal woman. She could stretch a nickel into a dime and give you two cents change."A tiny smiled lifted the corner of his lip. "That she could. I think sometimes she used the same grounds for three days in a row.""I like my coffee stout. I would rather save on other things."He looked at her then. "You need a new dress. I would not have you looking so shabby."The front of her everyday dress was stained and the cuffs were getting thin, but it had at least another year of use before it went into the rag bag. "I can't wear a good dress to do laundry and scrub floors. This one will do for a little longer. My other workday dress is not so worn, and I have a nice Sunday dress. I don't need anything else.""If a fella was to come courting, you'd want to look nice. We can afford the material."They couldn't, but that wasn't the point. She saw her father had something serious on his mind. "No one is coming to court me. What's wrong, Daed?""Wayne Hochstetler intends to ask you out."She sat back in surprise. "Wayne? How do you know this?"Wayne was a widower and the eldest son of their neighbor to the west. He and his family belonged to a different church group, one that was more conservative, but Wayne was known as a stalwart member of the Amish faith and a good farmer. His father was the bishop of their church district."I spoke with his father. Wayne is looking for a wife. He has a young daughter who needs a mother.""I hope he finds one, but what makes you think I would be interested in going out with him?""Because it's time you married. It's past time. You will be thirty soon. That is old enough to be settled.""I'm barely twenty-five, Daed.""That is still plenty old enough. I want you to seriously consider Wayne as a husband. His father and I are good friends. This would make us happy.""I thought marriage was a question of who would make me happy." She once believed Luke Bowman was that man, but she had been mistaken. Sadly mistaken."Love can grow from friendship and mutual respect. If there is someone else, dochder, please tell me now.""I have enough to do taking care of you and the boys. There isn't anyone I'm interested in.""Goot, then you will consider Wayne?""Not until you give me a better reason than my age and your friendship with his father. What's this about? Why this sudden interest in seeing me married off? I have plenty of time to meet the right man and fall in love."He sighed heavily. "You may have the time, but I do not. The news from the doctor was not goot, but it was what I have been expecting."Her heart pounded painfully, stealing her breath. "You are frightening me. What did he say?""I have inherited the same disease that took my father when you were but a small child. My kidneys are failing. The doctor thinks I have a year, maybe two, before it is my time to stand before God and be judged."She stared at him in disbelief. "Is the doctor sure? Can't there be some mistake? I know you've been ill, but you'll get better. You can see another doctor."He reached across the table and took her hand in his. "I knew this was coming when I started having the same type of pain that wore down my father. I can only pray that God has chosen to spare my sons.""And me? Can this disease come to me and my children?""You forget. You are my stepdaughter. I married your mother when you were only a babe. Your father died in a farming accident. This disease I inherited cannot come to you."It was true. She always forgot that Zachariah wasn't her real father. "You have been a father to me in every sense of the word save that one small thing. I could not love you more if we were bound by blood.""You are a true child of my heart, Emma, but I won't be able to care for you and the boys for much longer. I need to know someone will look after the lot of you when I'm gone. It falls to you now. The boys are too young.""I don't have to be married to take care of my brothers. You know I will always do that. The church will help us.""Wayne has a prosperous farm. Combined with my land, it will be more than enough. You will not be dependent on the charity of others. Do not mistake me—there's nothing wrong with accepting charity when you need it, but it is much better not to need it. I'm not afraid to face death but I am afraid of leaving you and your brothers without a secure future. Can you understand that?""Ja, I do. I can't believe this is happening." She didn't want to believe it. Not her big strong father. There had to be some mistake."I'm sorry to burden you with this news, but in one sense, it is a blessing. Few men are given the chance to know when their end is coming. I have time to prepare. You will have time to prepare as well. You must find someone to care for you when I cannot. Wayne is a goot man. A fine farmer. I hope you will consider him."Emma arose and carried her mug to the kitchen sink. Setting it carefully on the counter, she stared out the window. How could she refuse Zachariah's request? She couldn't. Everything she had, everything she believed in, was due to the kindness and love of the man who had chosen to become her father."Where are the boys?" he asked.

By Tina Watson "An Amish Noel" by Patricia Davids is the second book in the series, The Amish Bachelors. I absolutely loved "An Amish Noel" and I have to say it's my favorite so far.Emma Swartzentruber is the oldest of her two brothers in her Amish family. She's been helping her father to raise her brothers, which kind of out her life on hold. But she was kind of forced to not to follow the young man who won her heart so long ago. Does Emma want to find a husband?Luke Bowman find himself in some trouble as a young man and has paid the price in more ways than one. Returning home on parole in his Amish community, he's questioning what he wants to do with his life. He would like his community to see past his mistakes, but can he forgive himself? Will the girl that won his heart forgive him?Zachariah Swartzentruber, Emma's father, has news to tell his family. He first wants to make sure his family can make a go of his store.Roy Swartzentruber is Emma's brother and he is in a hard time of life when a young boy is reaching young manhood. And when to get family to see you as a young man and not a boy. He is also struggling with something else, can his family be enough to help him?Well, I'm not going to tell you the answers to these questions, you'll have to read "An Amish Noel" to find out. You'll be glad you read the book. I know I am.I loved this book. Not too many authors have ventured to talk about drugs and the hardship Amish families go through. They are human like us and experience the same hardships we do. Not all Amish families have to same response as this fictional family does, but it is one that happens when given a second chance. We all can be given a second chance if we want to change our lives around and learn from the mistakes.I look forward to reading the next book in the series. And also other books that Patricia Davids writes.I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley, in return for an honest review. This review is my own words and no money was exchanged.

If you remember Luke from the first book, he carries a lot of guilt and pain; he was responsible for Samuel’s accident. He is also on probation from his time with the English, and is responsible in a way for Timothy going to jail. Will he be able to turn his life around, and join and live his faith? He is off to a good start when he decides to help his former girlfriend, ah is she, Emma Swartzentruber’s father. Will he be able to face her each day, will she accept that he is working for her Dad, and he sure needs help. Will he influence her teenage brother with the life he lived with the English. What a wonderful reunion we have with the characters we met in the first book, and we catch up with their lives, and are included in this story. There are a few chuckles and joy found here and there are some very serious moments, and times of fear.I can’t wait for the next book in this series, and from the author’s hints it is going to be brother Timothy’s life.I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Love Inspired, and was not required to give a positive review.

But when Emma's childhood crush Luke Bowman comes back, rescuing Roy and Alvin the two boys that Emma is like a mother to, and then offering to help her father with the store, she isn't sure how to feel.Luke has made his share of bad choices, and now he is finally ready to settle down, and he wants to prove himself to his family and to himself. Will Luke find the place where he finally belongs?I liked how Luke works with Roy and Alvin, and especially mentoring Roy encouraging his mind and his interest in mechanical things, while warning him of the risks and dangers of and English life.I like how Emma and Luke got to know each other again by working together and helping with the children's Christmas program. She is wary of him, at first but sees how the boys like him.Overall, this is a great story and I liked revisiting the Bowmans. A wonderful heartwamring tale of family and forgiveness.

In Alpine folklore, Krampus is a fearsome horned figure who punishes naughty children during the Christmas season, just as Saint Nick rewards those who behave. Writer/director Michael Dougherty (Trick 'r Treat, Superman Returns, X-Men 2) brings this iconic figure to life in a modern-day horror comedy set against the perfect suburban holiday celebration. The Art of Krampus takes a look at how this terrifying character inspired the filmmaker and Legendary Pictures to create a movie that captures the dark side of the holidays. With fascinating concept art and unit photography showcasing the most thrilling, suspenseful, and horrifying moments of the movie alongside insightful commentary from the cast and crew, this deluxe coffee-table book details all that went into crafting Dougherty’s eagerly-awaited Yuletide horror film. Visually stunning and comprehensive, The Art of Krampus is the perfect holiday gift for horror enthusiasts.

The Art of Krampus By JMM [[VIDEOID:7995a32fe52bd70885da7ecb744cb9e]]The new film "Krampus" provides an original and terrifying perspective on the Christmas season. I am a fan of director Michael Dougherty, whose last film "Trick 'r Treat" was immaculately designed - and it looks like he has done it again here because the film looks great. The book "The Art of Krampus" allows fans to delve into the designs of the film. Inside you'll find wonderfully creepy designs of holiday icons - including snowmen, elves, and gingerbread men. It's fascinating to see something so innocent - such as a teddy bear - turned into something evil and quite scary. Then there's Krampus himself: the book discusses all aspects of the character (including casting an actor to inhabit the role; and designing his look and costume). Because Krampus is well-known in European mythology, the character already had certain defining characteristics (the horns, for example). But the filmmakers also had freedom to make their Krampus slightly unique and specific to their story. I love the final look of the character in the film, but it's also fascinating to see early concept art and variations of the character in this book.Author Michael Mallory chronicles the entire journey of the film - script development and design work all the way through shooting and scoring. It was interesting to read about the challenges of filming and trying to capture as much in-camera as they could. The film utilizes practical effects, makeup, and puppetry whenever possible - digital effects were a last resort for things that could not be achieved another way. Given the quality of work on display, I wasn't surprised to learn that Weta Workshop was responsible for much of it. Weta is the best in the business, and the book shows the complexity of the animatronics and makeup effects used to bring the characters to life. The book is full of imagery - this includes conceptual artwork and character sketches; storyboards of key sequences; and behind the scenes photos from the set and the creature shop. Photos are high-quality and the overall layout of the book is very pleasing. It all comes together to make "The Art of Krampus" a very interesting read for what is a compelling movie from a visionary filmmaker.

The movie was excellent so it was interesting to see how the scenes, characters, and especially the monsters developed from idea to screen. A very nice book with beautiful heavy pages and sharp images. Well worth the money, if you love film art or horror flicks!

However, this book is well done in its artwork and I enjoyed it very much.

I have not read any of the other books in the Matchmakers series but am going to correct that oversight at the first available opportunity.Anna and Felty are two of my new favorite people. I could end the review there and it would sum up most of my love for this novel. But, there is really so much more to say so I will continue. But those two – what a hoot! In my heart, they rank up there with Dodie and Wilson Binder from Cynthia Ruchti’s An Endless Christmas and Goggy and Pops from Kristan Higgins’ Blue Heron series. Apparently I have a soft spot for grandparently characters who rock a killer sense of humor.Speaking of humor – I laughed out loud often while reading Huckleberry Hearts. A couple of scenes in particular stand out in my memory. The pink shirt debacle, for one. Oh my word, I kept wanting to sing, “Let it Go” to the men in Cassie’s family but I was chuckling too much to have done it justice. Which brings to mind another scene – this one where Cassie and Zach come upon Felty singing through a car window to a rather uptight visitor in an attempt to calm her down. But what is he singing? LOL well…I mean, singing about the Death Angel is certainly MY go-to strategy when someone seems stressed. But amid the laughing, there were also plenty of tears. Good tears. Healing tears. Jennifer Beckstrand addressed some tough topics with grace and heart. If you’ve ever struggled like Zach with the question, “Why does God let bad things happen to people He loves?” this is a marvelous place for you to start finding peace. If you’ve ever been in Cassie’s shoes and felt pulled between your family’s expectations and the pull of your heart, this is again a marvelous place for you to start finding peace.Oh yeah … I can’t forget to mention the kissing. WHEW! First of all, Zach is trying to be a man of honor which just makes him dreamier as far as I’m concerned, and while he’s not perfect he is sincere. Which makes the first kiss a doozy. :-D And all the others too, for that matter. I have to confess, I melted more than a little at his kissing rules.Bottom Line: While this is the 6th book in the Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill series by Jennifer Beckstrand, it can easily be read as a stand alone. But I can just about guarantee you will want to go back and read the other books in the series as soon as you’ve finished Huckleberry Hearts because you will fall in love with Anna and Felty and Cassie and Zach and well, MOST of Cassie’s extended family ;) Written with much talent and warmth, Huckleberry Hearts is a new favorite and I highly recommend it to fans (and non-fans) of Amish fiction, Jen Turano, and Cynthia Ruchti.(I received a copy of this book in exchange for only my honest review.)

By M.Fields The Matchmakers of Huckleberry Hill are back in Huckleberry Hearts. You will not be disappointed. Beckstrand has really got a way with words and she knows the Amish and their ways so well.Family is the one word that sums this book up.After the first five books in this series you would think you would be tired of Huckleberry, But I still can't get enough of this series.I gave this book 4 stars and I recommend this book as well as the whole series.I was given a copy of this book by the publisher for my honest review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Oh, For a Huckleberry Patch of My Own By Rebecca G. Guinn Anna and Felty are at it again--trying to make a match for their granddaughter with the local doctor, and even though neither are Amish, Anna feels that Dr Reynolds will be the perfect match for Cassie. Anna has to have a skin cancer removed from her foot and Cassie is coming to stay with Anna until she is able to be back on her feet. There is a long row to hoe to get the doctor and Cassie together, to get their faith on solid footing, to come to a complete understanding of each other. Jennifer Beckstrand has well out-done herself in writing this book. I had a hard time putting it down, even though I had many other bids for my time. I did manage to finish crocheting a mitten while I was reading, although Anna's claim to fame is her knitting--especially potholders. In the workings of the story are events like the death of a young boy from a heart that was too weak to withstand the stress his surgery put on it, finding faith when it seemed to be totally gone, maple sap tapping, an Amish haystack dinner and auction to benefit a woman with medical bills, a wrestling match, and a constant stream of cookies.I found the characters to be real in their emotions and actions. There is a depth to the characters I haven't often seen--an overprotective and overbearing brother, a proud mother who cared more about other people's opinions, compassionate cousins, and loving family members. The doctor's reaction to the young boy's death was the reaction of someone who had come to care so much for the boy, but had no real understanding of who God is. I had tears rolling down my cheeks in several portions of the book. It is so easy to relate to the characters.I wish I could give this book more than five stars, two thumbs up, and a plate of cookies, but these are the limits of my abilities. My thanks to Zebra Publishing for allowing me to read and review this book.

A vivid adventure of mayhem, heartbreak and accidental magic, set in a world of charlatans, narrow escapes and tall stories by lamp light. Demonbound is a story of dark secrets and hidden doorways, bringing to life the expectant thrill of tales whispered in the dark and the disastrous consequences of magic running out of control. A story in which the dreams of poor drummer boys clash against the skulduggery of the landed gentry, where demons and their tireless hunters conduct a secret war in sleepy Yorkshire villages, and where the lives of innocent people can be turned upside down by a few badly chosen words. Because some words have a terrible power, and people are so very fragile.

By Jason Byrne So seldom are works truly innovative, as David Parkland has achieved in his delightful story Demon Bound. A tale of morality reminiscent of Grimm's Fairytales of 1812, this book teaches honesty and loyalty by contrast of consequence — pairing commendable historical accuracy beside a whimsical and fantastical fantasy tale with strong appeal to groups ranging from Middle Grade, to Young Adult, and indeed through Adult as well.David Parkland also holds impressive command of theme, setting, voice, and plot, culminating in a very intelligent and shocking climax.I very much loved this book, and you will as well!

Imaginative, entertaining, wonderfully-written, it's a real page-turner. I enjoyed reading it immensely. I am looking forward to the next in the series.

Micah is the hippest, most chill guy on campus. But when he gets the hottest kiss of his life from a cute guy during a game of ‘spin the bottle’, Micah’s cool turns into a puddle of anxious goo. Sure, Micah’s always been a little bi-curious, but he never thought he’d pursue a guy, much less a guy who doesn’t seem to be interested in getting caught. Leo is passionate about two things: gay rights activism and acting. He stays focused and in control, and he never, ever, dates straight guys. When a chance spin of a bottle at a party has him locking lips with Micah Springfield, president of the Delts, dread-headed, serial-dating, straight Micah, Leo is determined to forget about it, no matter how incendiary the sparks or how gorgeous Micah may be. Leo has bigger problems. His senior project is directing Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream just before the Christmas break. When his venue cancels at the last minute, Micah offers the use of his parent’s barn in rural Pennsylvania. Leo’s play may be saved, but what about his heart? Between Micah’s sweet lips, his family’s welcoming arms, and a devious bulldog who is determined to play Puck, Leo may find himself falling under the spell of Christmas magic.

Fell a little short of expectations By Katie * The Back Porch Reader *Review also posted on BackPorchReader.com & GoodReads*I was so excited to get to Micah’s story after Unwrapping Hank. The easy-going, rolling with flow, dreadlocked cutie Micah totally captivated me in the first book. There’s a kiss that takes place early on in this story…and that kiss. Have mercy. I could feel the earth moving. I had a tingle down my spine. I’m breaking a sweat just thinking about it two days later. But then….Well. The story didn't exactly hold together for me.The book is written in first person POV of the two MCs Micah and Leo; and then we also get third person POV of several other characters. I get what the author was doing in this modern take of Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. I had no interest or connection to the side characters of Yasmine and Helen in any capacity other than as antagonist and confidante. I didn’t want their story or their POV…or anyone else’s except Micah and Leo. The thing is, for me and romance books, too many points of view feel like a betrayal to the main characters when I’m learning things they can’t know.It was fun to touch base with Hank and Sloane and learn they’re still going strong. I didn’t need Sloane’s POV to get that though. I will say catching up with them was a highlight that’s probably helped my rating. And…I’m such a greedy, greedy reader. I wanted more spark and heat between Micah and Leo woven into the story. The potential was there, it just sadly fell short for me.Micah and Hank’s parents, the setting of the family farm, and Grinch the dog nearly stole the show again like they did in the fist book.I’m glad they got their HEA and I can easily see them together until the end of time, but sorry to say their story fell a little short of my expectations.

Book Review by Brandilyn By PrismBookAlliance 5 of 5 StarsFor original review, please visit the Prism Book Alliance® blog online. If you read this blog or follow me on Facebook, you probably know of my love for Eli Easton’s Christmas tale, Blame it on the Mistletoe. Heck, you probably know of my love for almost anything she writes. Of course, I jumped at the chance to read and review her latest holiday offering, A Midwinter Night’s Dream. As the name suggests, it is Easton’s take on Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. A story of a love polygon of epic proportions. Set against the Pennsylvania winter and PSU college, we revisit some beloved characters from last year’s Unwrapping Hank. While you don’t have to have read Unwrapping Hank in order to enjoy this story, it doesn’t hurt at all to read it. Hank and Sloane’s story is certainly worth a read, and they both features prominently in this story. We first met Micah in UH as he helped facilitate the relationship between his brother Hank and Sloane, whether intentional or not. He returns to us in this installment as a Grad student, with an unexpected crush on theater major, Leo. I say unexpected because Micah has never before crushed on a guy in a serious way. Heck, he has never before crushed on anyone in a serious way.Leo, for his part, is a new character. He is serious about his craft and serious about telling Micah no.It takes most of the story for these two to find their way finally together. I feared it was going to echo the way Sloane and Hank found each other in their story. While there are definite parallels between the two stories, they are certainly unique. If you are a Holiday story fanatic as I am, you will not want to miss this one.

Somehow this story just didn't work for me By Melanie Marshall A Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words.com Review (A Stella Review)Rating: 3 out of 5 starsMicah is the hippest, most chill guy on campus. Between Micah’s sweet lips, his family’s welcoming arms, and a devious bulldog who is determined to play Puck, Leo may find himself falling under the spell of Christmas magicI’m a fan of Eli Easton but her Unwrapping Hank series isn’t a winner to me, especially in this second installment called Midwinter Night’s Dream. The title and the amazing cover soon caught my attention, but then it wasn’t what I become to expect from this author. It was a nice reading, light and funny, well written, unfortunately it was nothing more. I found some parts boring too and it didn’t keep me glued to my Kindle at all.The bigger issue is the fact that I don’t like more than my MCs’ POVs and in this story there are too many of them, Helen’s one, Yas’, Micah’s and Sloane’s, plus the two main ones. It was confusing and dispersive, and it made no sense to me cause I wasn’t interested in the other people’s life. I wanted to know about Leo and Micah. I was almost halfway through the story when I realized I had no clue about the MCs’ lives. I knew nothing about them apart from Leo passion for the theater. And the fault can be ascribed to this choice of show more than our couple life. It was a bad choice cause Leo and Micah had not the space they deserved, the different POVs took away too much from their story. At the end it felt to me uncompleted.I’m not saying it isn’t a good book, it simply didn’t work for me and I surely not going to reread it.The cover art by Reese Dante is amazing. The model is gorgeous and the golden details are fabolous. Well done.
