By Bonnie Manning I've read all of Stephanie's stories, but this one is my favorite. Its as if the main characters voice is louder than any character this gifted writer has ever heard and long after you finish reading the last delicious drop, you will remember her voice and her strength and her unwavering heart.

25 of 32 people found the following review helpful. My dirty book lovers... we aren’t her target audience By Melissa K I bought this extremely overpriced ebook because the reality show Mob Wives is a guilty pleasure of mine. I watch maybe a handful of shows because I’m a reader as you can see from my blog. Last season on the show Renee, out of nowhere, said she was writing a dirty book… I use the terms writing and dirty loosely here, but I’ll get to that in a bit.Generally I don’t talk about authors personally when I do a review because: A I don’t generally know them and B my review is about the book, not the author. While reading this story though I had a hard time disconnecting the two because I felt somewhat like I know the author because of her reality show. I don’t think I have a disdain for Renee from watching her on TV. I think she’s crazy, needs medication, and the show would probably be crap without her so I like her on it. But some of it just seemed to blur together for me.Our heroine, Reign Grazi, has grown up in the mob world and seems to know everything about everything. She is so freaking observant and catches every little thing that I’m convinced she works for the CIA as a super spy or something. Anyways, one night while attending a party she meets Nick Fattelli. He’s handsome, charming, and seems to be a little bit mysterious. After having a very brief conversation they are out the door and headed back to Reign’s place for some sexy times. Upon arriving at her place someone tries to take her life, but Nick saves that day! Apparently he is an assassin by night… don don don BUT an investment banker by day. This is literally the story. Someone wants to kill Reign and Nick wants to stop them and find out who wants her dead. While that is happening the author tried to bore me to death. Seems the mob is stepping up their skills because I would have flipped on anyone to have been done with this book. I was so sad when the first assassin failed at killing Reign and the story wasn't over. I found myself actually cheering for the villain to kill her already. Why you ask? Because this book was one ginormous ego stroke.I couldn’t stop my brain from comparing the author, Renee, to the heroine, Reign, because there were just too many similarities. Take for example their very similar names, both having a son that is their world, both having an ex-husband that betrayed them, and both creating a clothing line. I think Reign was a depiction of who and what Renee really wants to be because Reign is classier, smarter, and a lot wiser. Having all of these characteristics in a heroine is good, but they are beat into us repetitiously in this book. The author wants to make sure we know how awesome Renee is and how much she knows about living in the higher circles of life because she goes into great detail to make sure we know. Hmmm. Must be because I give two s***s about what everything looks like or what they are wearing or eating or drinking… Nope, I sure the flip don’t. Focus. Tell the story here. Make me connect with the characters on an emotional level. Oh that’s right, the story could have been told in about 30 pages, but the author choose to weigh it down with details that didn’t matter or add to the characters. One thing we do learn is that Reign has trust issue because her ex-husband betrayed her, but I never got her pain for it. She was just all “I don’t trust easy…. I can’t love again” and I felt nothing for her or Nick. There was absolutely no emotion to them nor did I feel a connection between them. Then, I s*** you not, the author let me know the butter smelled like it had a hint of garlic, but pretty much skipped the first actual sex scene. But to be honest, it doesn’t really matter because the sex was vanilla as vanilla can be. This is by no means an erotica story at all. Nick was the worst lover ever. He seemed to be able to get it up often enough, but he sure wanted to make sure he got off. His whole "you come, I come" motto made me want to punch him in the face. Listen Nick, this is a romance for women. You eat that vagina until you have lock jaw and while doing this you think about how much you love doing it. I feel sorry for the author if she drew from her own sexual experiences with men because she has had some terrible selfish lovers then.Maybe she was trying to make the romance seem real, but that really messes with the whole "this is fictional romance." Where are the passion and fire? Why haven’t you connected me to any of it? There was no alpha male or uncontrollable need to have each other. Generally, in suspense the passion is as high as the suspense, so in this case she nailed it because there was no real suspense or "oh s*** moments" so I guess that works...??The one and only thing I liked about this book was a side character, Sal. Sal was awesome and Reign totally shot him down for “family issues.” Whatever. It sucks when you love a side character and your heroine is all like "No, we can’t be together. I’ll go be with Mr. No Passion over here." Yeah, that is pretty much how that went. It drove me crazy that Sal pined away for Reign when he could do so much better. But nope, the author wanted you to know everyone wants her because she is hot s*** (for what reason I don’t know!) *cries* Poor sweet Sal.This ebook cost over $10 and comes in at 300 pages. I know. Who the flip does Renne Grazinao think she is? If her true intentions were to break into our market (yes I’m talking to my fellow dirty book readers) than she came in with a slap to the face. She is NOT Joey Hill, Maya Banks, or Julie Garwood so I have no clue why she thinks it's ok to drop that price on us and ever more so when the book was crap. No joke. It was boring as f***. So I’m guessing we aren’t her target audience and she is going for fans of her show and trying to jump into a market that is doing well right now. But maybe she had no choice to charge that to break even because she has a pretty good editor and I have no clue how much a ghost writer cost. If I have learned anything from this experience it’s don’t read fiction written by reality stars.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good read By The Romance Reviews Reviewed by Deltafor TheRomanceReviews.comPLAYING WITH FIRE is the debut novel by VH1's Mob Wives star Renee Graziano and gives the reader an inside look at what it's like to be a mob princess with a price on her head.Fashion designer Reign Grazi knows dangerous men; she's been around them her entire life. And when she meets elegant yet understated Nick Fattelli, she spots his edge of danger immediately, and she isn't interested in resisting him. Nick definitely wants to get close to Reign, but not just because he wants her in bed. He has no clue who hired him to kill her, but she doesn't seem like the kind of woman someone wants dead, even if she is part of an organized crime family.Nick wants to know who wants Reign dead and why. He also wants to know why he's so intrigued by this particular woman. Reign knows she should go for someone safe, someone like her former lover Sal who adores her. But she can't quite stay away from her bad boy hit man Nicky. As she and Nick get to know one another, they both find themselves falling harder for each other, even though they know they're not good for one another. Can Nick keep Reign alive long enough to figure out who wants her dead?PLAYING WITH FIRE is the debut novel by Renee Graziano, star of the VH1 reality show Mob Wives. I will admit that I had a really difficult time putting aside my opinion of Ms. Graziano’s TV character and reviewing this book solely on its merit. PLAYING WITH FIRE almost looked semi-autobiographical, with the similar names and cast of characters in both the book and her real life, further blurring the lines between fiction and reality. Regardless, there were things about this story that I liked and things that were cringe-worthy for me. The sometimes cheesy (“He represented danger, and she had the golden ticket for that ride.”) and sometimes sleazy writing just had me rolling my eyes. Additionally, there were random sentences thrown in that gave me whiplash on occasion, trying to figure out what direction Ms. Graziano was going to go.That said, I did like the suspense of wondering who wanted Reign dead and why. The information unfolds slowly yet methodically, keeping the suspense up throughout the story. Ms. Graziano hit her stride midway through this book and I wound up somewhat enjoying the story as it unfolded. While I didn’t really enjoy Reign’s snotty attitude or lack of enthusiasm and thought she went about her day mainlining Prozac, Nick was better written and had a decent amount of depth to him. Their chemistry in the bedroom was lukewarm, but as a crime-fighting duo, they have potential.Overall, PLAYING WITH FIRE wasn’t a horrible read for me, and I think that with a little more developmental bitch slaps and a little less on-page arrogance, Ms. Graziano could have a decent future ahead of her as an author.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. kind of trashy. By ga. I started to read something else now. If the author is trying to turn it into 50 Shades....IT'S NOT WORKING!!

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Mixed bag By craterdweller There are some excellent stories here. My favorites: General Hammond's story, Ronon's story, Sam's early days on Atlantis and the one with SG-1 shortly after Moebius. There weren't any bad stories although I would prefer in a collection of short stories by various authors that they do not reference other of their novels/works. They really should stand alone. The story Aftermath makes fairly heavy reference to the SG-1 novel Do No Harm.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Good collection. By Silverscarf This collection is both awesome and a bit of a let down. It starts with a wonderful story called "Precognition" about General Hammond and how meeting SG-1 in 1969 makes him both question his sanity and gives him hope for the future. I really enjoyed this story and it set the bar very high for what I expected from the rest of the collection. Then I got to the next story, a confusing Atlantis tale called "Coterinouc(us)" that was written by Peter J. Evans, who also wrote my least favorite Atlantis book "Angelus" and got a bit worried. But those worries were all for nothing, as that was the low point. The best stories in my opinion are the aforementioned "Precognition" by Jo Graham, "Iron Horse" a great story about Ronon's adventures on Sateda and how he met his girlfriend Melena by Amy Griswold, and "Dude where's my spaceship?" a truly hilarious story about Jaffa lost on earth who come looking for Daniel, you'll laugh at least once, probably more I guarantee it, and "Hermiod's Last Mission" which will please Asgaurd fans, especially the ending. All the stories are great except for "Coternicio(us)" by Peter J. Evans, and "Kill Switch" by Aaron Rosenberg which are the two weakest entries, I just didn't particularly enjoy these as much as the rest. I have to say that the SG-1 entries are stronger, I liked them a lot. Only about half of the Atlantis ones are good, but they all felt a bit off.I can't compare this with the first short story collection, as I have not yet read all of it (I was saving it for a rainy day), but this is a great way to get your Stargate fix without having to read one of the full books if you don't want to.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very disappointing By SBentley I hate to say it, but this was quite possibly the worst SG book I've read. After the first book of short stories, I had been anticipating this book for a long time, and was terribly excited when it showed up on my Kindle. The first story was okay, and had a good concept, though to me, there was a major plot hole. Unfortunately, the plot hole really made the story less enjoyable for me.The second story absolutely did not hold my attention, and made little sense to me, or my other friends who read it. At this point, I put the book aside, which something I never do. I thought maybe if I came back to it, I might enjoy it a little more.I was both right, and wrong, in my thinking. Some of the stories that followed, were okay, but one of them-I won't say which-was so dreadful (my friends agreed), that I can't actually believe it made it into any publication, let alone a Fandemonium book, which normally puts out pretty high caliber stories. It was like reading really bad fanfic. After that one, I almost put the book aside for good, but decided to plow on. I'm glad I did, as there were some decent stories that followed, even if they didn't bowl me over. The final two stories, were both well written, and thought out. Being written by Laura Harper, and Sally Malcolm though, this was not a surprise. They both seem to capture the feel of the show, and the character voices, in such a way, that the reader feels as though the stories could be an actual episode. If you are a Jack, and Sam shipper, there are 2-3 stories that will make your shippy heart sing. While I liked that aspen of the book, those few stories are not worth buying the book.I'm hoping this book is just a one off, and the next book of short stories will knock it out of the park again.

Yoder Plot Boiler is the fifth book in the A Black Cat Bookshop Mystery series.Darla Pettistone is back in her bookshop and is very pleased with the remodeling that took place while she and her black cat, Hamlet, were in Florida. As is Robert, her teenaged clerk, who is now the stores Barista. The 4th of July is just around the corner and Darla, with the help of some of the other shop owners are planning a block party to celebrate the 4th and hopefully to promote their shops and generate additional revenue for everyone. But George King, owner of Perky's Coffee Shop, is disgruntled about Darla's coffee bar, claiming that is hurting his business. Darla, having overheard some young ballet students of Penelope Winston's dance studio, talking about a “special blend” coffee that Perky's is selling. As the block party is about to wrap up Darla is heading to Perky's to confront them about the possbile illegal substance in their special blend coffee, but instead finds George King's wife is lying dead at the entrance to the shop. Later the body of Penelope Winston is found dead. With the help of her good friend and PI, Jacqueline “Jake” Martelli, Darla is off investigating before any more shop owners meet their demise. As in the previous books James, her store manager, is back to do what he does best, manage the store and give Darla the find to sleuth. Hamlet continues to provide Darla with clues and ends up saving the day. Also Darla gets some disturbing news about Reese, the hunky detective that she likes to have little interest in.Will be watching for the next book in this series.

By Lisa Ks Book Reviews PLOT BOILER is an example of how a series can get better and better with each installment.I’ll admit that the first Black Cat mystery, DOUBLE BOOKED FOR DEATH, was not my favorite book. Therefore I wondered if I’d ever care for the series. Author Ali Brandon has really grown this series into a solid one. I just love the addition of the coffee bar to the bookstore. It’s exactly what was needed. PLOT BOILER is the best installment to date.Ms. Brandon keeps the action going in this story with not one, but multiple deaths. The story is fast paced and wonderfully plotted. A whodunit that will kept me guessing, and a finale that I never saw coming.I’m looking forward to the next tome author Brandon has brewing for us!

Hamlet is a cat with a definite ‘tude and a nose for clues. He has an opinion about most people who are privileged to meet him, from children who have seen him on YouTube and want their pictures taken with him to those who visit the shop for the first time. Even though he came with Pettistone’s Fine Books in Brooklyn, NY when Darla inherited it from her great aunt, I don’t think Darla would give him up for all the books in Brooklyn. Good thing, since Hammy really owns Darla! Pettistone’s has caffeine, books, and a cat…it just doesn’t get any better!Darla contributed many hours to get together the vendors on this block of historic brownstones to have an outdoor 4th of July block party. As final preparations are made for decorating, replacing a last-minute band back-out, and placing display tables and cases, Darla had one more task to complete – get the balance of the shared entry fee from the owners of Perky’s Coffee Shop. George King, the self-proclaimed King of Coffee, had protested the addition of the coffee bar at Pettistone’s, and was less than excited about the block party, so Darla tread softly – and George referred her to his lovely wife, Livvy. Darla also hoped to learn more about a special coffee blend she heard some young people discussing their preference for. What a special blend it was! Very expensive…how could teens afford it?The block party was a success; even the summer heat and humidity didn’t stop the steady flow of folks who sampled free or reduced-price wares from the shops, listened to the unique band, watched Martial Arts demos and the dance school’s “flash mob”, even coming to meet Hamlet, the Youtube star. Nobody was prepared for the shocking end of day, though, when Hamlet sensed the way to Livvy King, dead near the front of Perky’s while her husband had napped at their booth. Then within a matter of hours, the owner of the dance studio – a respected ballerina – was also found dead in another shop.As the fifth novel in the Black Cat Bookshop Mystery series, Plot Boiler could be enjoyed as a stand-alone or within the series – but I encourage you to enjoy the whole series! While the author thoroughly developed the primary characters early on, with each mystery we see new facets, strengths, and talents in them. I like best friends Darla and Jake; their diverse ages and backgrounds contribute as much to their friendship as their common interests. Hamlet, of course, ‘knows’ he is the star (well, isn’t he?) and without his presence, the bookshop and the series would not be the same. This cat with a ‘tude brings entertainment, a sense of safety and well-being, and a whimsical whisker of imagination to all who come in contact with him!The characters specific to this novel or introduced for the first time are well-suited to their defined roles. Even Detective Fiorello “Fi” Reese’s fiancée, Connie, while certainly out-of-character for his personality, was an interesting woman. Hopefully we haven’t seen the last of her! Pinky, leader of the band that Darla’s barista Robert referred for a last-minute fill-in, had unexpected talent. The newbies also continue to educate me, this time introducing me to some current slang. Catching up with familiar friends and meeting new ones has been an absolute blast!Plot Boiler is very well-organized and thoroughly executed; I can’t imagine any loose threads at the close of the day. The means of death was certainly a surprise for me; it was one of the plot twists that kept me on my toes! While like Darla I disagreed with the cops’ line of thinking, suspects and motives just would not match up for me. This reader was stumped, as an excellent mystery can do, until it was too late, so it’s a good thing Darla wasn’t waiting for me to figure it out! I do, however, see that this is a four-paws and a tail UP tale and highly recommend this cozy to cat, book, and mystery lovers who appreciate well-written mysteries. Plot Boiler has given me hours of feline fun without additional feline chores; Ali Brandon has designed an amazing bookstore where I can’t wait to spend more time! PS Thank you, Ali, for the scoop on Livvy’s health challenge – perhaps your gentle info will help more understand…*OBS would like to thank the publisher for supplying a free copy of this title in exchange for an honest review as part of their ongoing blog tour*

In 1718 Charleston, there are few other choices left to women in need of large sums of money. And Faith Westcott needs such a fortune to protect her sisters from forced marriages before their aloof and often-absent admiral father returns from overseas. Dajon Waite longs to make a success of himself in the British Royal Navy. The Blue Enchantress How does a British Admiral’s daughter end up being sold as a slave on the auction block in St. Kitts? Could it be the loss of her mother, the verbal abuse of a strict father, the violation by a family member? Or maybe that her sister is a pirate! All these things and more drove Hope Westcott to seek love and value in the arms of unscrupulous men and hence into this dire situation. Nathaniel Mason has loved Hope from afar for years, but her scandalous behavior, along with his efforts to start a shipping company, have kept him at a distance. Yet when he sees Hope on the auction block, how much of that security will he risk to save her? The Raven Saint Grace Westcott has spent her entire life serving God and helping the poor. This series will take you on an adventure that you won't soon forget. And now all three books are in one set! Clean, fun, adventurous and Christ-centered....can't pass it up!

Word of warning to parents, I'm not sure how much of her books I would let even teenage kids read. If I was still a teenager with roaring hormones, reading many of the scenes in her books would not help me keep my thoughts pure. Read one and judge for yourself but you'll have a great adventure while you do!
