8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Another intricate and finely woven novel in the World of the Lupi series By Amazon Customer DISCLOSURE: I received Mind Magic as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. No bribes or gifts were requested or received for this review.Lily Yu and Rule Turner have recently returned from their honeymoon and are ready to pick up their responsibilities to the FBI's Unit Twelve and to their lupi clans... except Lily has been forced to take a leave of absence due to the periodic hallucinations she's been experiencing as a limited but harrowing side effect of the mindspeech lessions she's been receiving from Sam, the black dragon with a shared past with Lily's grandmother. Lily is resigned to the temporary leave but happy to accompany Rule as he attempts to spend more time with, and take a more active role in the affairs of, the Leidolf clan as Rho. To that end, the couple are staying at the home of Ruben Brooks, the head of Unit Twelve and a shadow unit.A complicated set of events occur, which ends up separating the pair for much of the tale, and creates new intrigues. Not only does a conspiracy with clear ties to the government arise to separately and jointly target Rule and Ruben Brooks, but Mika, the dragon assigned to DC, abruptly becomes incommunicado. Suddenly, everyone is in danger, and all are trying to unwind the tangle of knots that links everything together. As the situations evolve, new puzzle pieces fall into place but other mysteries appear.Ms Wilks's World of Lupi series is a very skillfully written and complex urban fantasy with finely nuanced characters and detailed world building. Consequently, I strongly recommend you read the previous books in this series to understand why and how several of the events that occur in this book unfold. Moreover, in my opinion, this is not a novel that you can speed through; the painstaking weaving of the plot is intense and requires a lot of thought, but it is well worth the effort.

It amazes me how fresh and interesting each of these books are considering how long this series has been running. Typically by this point, the twelfth book, I almost expect a bit of staleness, and yet with each new book, Eileen Wilks brings a whole new challenge and ball game. It's incredibly impressive and one of the reasons I really enjoy this series. Between knowing I'll get a fantastic plot and all the many previous books allowing for such rich and lengthy amount of character growth, and I don't even need to read the description. I'll read the next book sight unseen. This time around the plot centers around Lily and Rule again, my favorite pair so I knew I was in for a treat. And the book delivered. Between all the crazy politics, Dragon happenings, a new and troublesome ability for Lily, seriously tricky situations for Rule, and a very interesting new character, MIND MAGIC had me hooked from the start. It's a lengthy book but I read it almost straight through into the wee hours of the morning just to find out what happened next. I know I'll be counting down the days until the next installment releases.Seamlessly weaving fast paced action and strong characters in a fantastic blend of entertainment, MIND MAGIC is not to be missed.

Antonio The World of the Lupi series has taken Lily, Rule and friends to some incredible places and put them through physical and magical dangers of all sorts but this may be the toughest mystery yet. Lily and Rule have only been back from their honeymoon in Paris for two months when circumstances force them to part. Thanks to the mindspeech lessons she’s receiving from the black dragon, Lily is temporarily benched from Unit Twelve—until her brain acclimates and the risk of total burnout passes but she is needed at a murder scene and is put back on active status. The powers that be don’t want Rule to go with her so they part. After Lily takes over the murder case she goes missing and insidious attacks start happening to Rule, Ruben and the agents of Unit Twelve. With the help of some old and new friends Rule will find Lily and they will solve this mystery. This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and leave you breathless and wanting more. Mind Magic is a fantastic addition to this series and now I just want to know - when do we find out where Cullen is?

Review "Gritty, Raw, and Captivating." -Book lover"Gritty and in your face...Disturbingly Addictive." -K.T.Munson."Dark and Thrilling." -Catamount."If you enjoy thrillers then this one is right for you." -ACM."New York author R.G.Miller makes his literary debut with The Twins, and his passion for Abnormal Psychology serves him well in this very intense thriller." -Grady Harp, Hall of fame and top 100 reviewer on Amazon.

About the Author I'm a lover of books and a hungry reader. I also enjoy smooth rock and R&B. I started writing The Twins trilogy in 2012. It took three years to complete the piece and believe me when I say that it was a labor of love. I started writing late in life, I'm fifty-six years old, that goes to show you that it's never too late to pursue your dreams.

By Rachel Forget every other serial killer book on the market... if you want a glimpse into a brutal, horrifying world of innocence lost and torture, look no further than The Twins. What does it take to break a person, to take their humanity? This book will show you the depths that the human mind can go to when its exposed to the unthinkable. The twins will have you feeling bad for them even as you dread what they might do next. Detective Isis Williams is a modern-day hero, going on a journey into Hell to try to find out the truth to save her city. You won't be able to stop reading!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. ‘You’ve never seen anything like what you’re about to see, Ms. Big Time Detective.' By Grady Harp New York author R.G. Miller makes his literary debut with THE TWINS and his passion for Abnormal Psychology serves him well in this very intense thriller.Miller strikes the right note with his readers in the subtle way in which he introduces his characters – a seemingly normal home situation with out a trace of what is to come. ‘Today was Stacey and Jannifer McHill’s thirteenth birthday; they were identical twins. “We’re coming, dad,” they shouted back in unison. The twins brushed their hair with the exact amount of strokes. Then they stared at their reflections in the mirror, smiled, and finally they finger-waved at themselves. The twins turned toward one another and said, “Happy birthday, sister,” then they ran from their bathroom toward the staircase.‘ More solid evidence of the personalities and twin proclivities would be difficult to pen.The synopsis provided by Miller smartly opens a window for a peek into the terror that will begin without giving away the plot – ‘What if two thirteen-year-old sisters, who were identical twins; two sisters who'd come from an affluent family; twin sisters whose parents had shielded them from the ugliness of the world; identical twins sisters who'd shared that unique twin consciousness, were suddenly forced to watch their loving parents suffer--at the hands of two home invaders-- the worst kind of physical torture imaginable before they were killed. What if these two teenage girls wanted revenge? Stacey and Jannifer McHill, two teenage girls who'd survived a living nightmare, but in doing so...they'd become a living nightmare.’But if tasting the terror is necessary to draw you into this story, then the following description of the girls’ parents predicament will suffice: ‘One of the mimes that Terry and Linda had hired to entertain the children earlier that day was bending over Terry. He was cutting Terry’s clothing off with some kind of small knife. There was blood everywhere. The mime was naked except for the cellophane that covered his body. The mime looked up at Linda and smiled. His makeup was different; it looked monstrous. “What are you doing to him?” Linda said as she raced down the stairs. “Leave him alone!” she shouted at the intruder. Linda stopped in her tracks when a second mime exited from the hall closet; he too was naked except for the cellophane he had wrapped around his body. The second mime wore a black party hat on his head, and his makeup was also hideous.’That little bit of excerpting from this book should magnetize the reader. This is a terrifically well-written novel – the first of what promises to be a trilogy. Leave the lights on…Grady Harp, March 16

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Gritty story about innocence lost and darkness gained... By K.T. Munson CharactersMost of the main characters are fundamentally flawed. They have a major flaw that is established right off the bat and is a major player in most of the book's events. Unfortunately just like making characters too perfect, making them too flawed is also a drawback. Fortunately secondary characters slowly come in that help level off the major offset in the beginning.I was initially off put by Detective Isis and her major patterns of behavior. Yet her determination and other characteristics really redeemed her. By the end of the book she felt like a well rounded human being, flaws and all. Annette Toni was the major factor that evened her out. Annette seemed very solid as a character and created the balance other characters did not. The Captain was the same way, sort of a fatherly role that evened out Isis. The twins are also central of course, but I don't want to go into too much detail and give anything away. The worst and most difficult part pf this novel was the flow of characters. You could jump 3 character perspectives in a single page. There is absolutely no breaks or warnings, the character information just flows in an almost matter of fact way at times - as though we are getting a catalog of information, while others go into a character's head and delve in deep.PlotThis was a dark plot. Nothing is sacred or off limits. The loss of innocence is at the heart of this novel and the psychology about why a person kills. What external factors can drive a normal person to become something twisted and downright evil. This book perfectly covers this. It is not a whodunit, it is a book that covers the why. What drives the killer(s) to kill and what is the end goal? This book isn't just dark it is brutal and doesn't hold any shots. Absolutely nothing isn't touched on in this book. There is sex, addiction, exportation of sexual preferences, betrayal, race, gender discrimination, guilt, grief, and violence. Not to mention cursing. A lot of curse words in this book which isn't surprising because of the multiple exploration of topics that lean towards a gritty world. The plot at so much potential but was bogged down by all the sidetracks. Although the topics listed above added a complexity to the novel, it also pulled away from the main focus. I did like getting to know Isis and her family complications - I would consider that a character builder and not a sidetrack.OverallIt is disturbingly additive. It is gritty and in your face on all its array of touchy topics. If nothing offends you this book is perfect. In a way it is a peek into the human resilience. Some shine bright and fight on, others live to become the villain - twisted and broken villains.Despite the psychological pieces being very strong and the characters being as gritty as the world they were in, there were some major flaws. The police work piece had some major logic flaws that made parts of the plot fall apart. For example, if there were footprints left at the scene - what are the odds both the killer(s) and the person they think it is have the same shoe size. That was one of many major deficiencies in the police work aspect. That being said, if the main character was a psychologist or a therapist that works with the police this would have been amazing. The most authoritative and strong character in the book? Dr. Susan Patterson. Her dialog was complete and specific. I am not sure on accuracy but that's okay. If I don't question her, that means she is believable enough that I take it as it is. I would highly encourage bringing that strength to the forefront.Rating3 StarsAt the end of the day I thought it was okay. I liked it enough to read through it pretty quickly but the major logic flaws, the jerky character transitions, and extensive grammatical errors were too much for me to be able to recommend it to anyone. If I gave half points, I wouldn't hesitate to give this 3.5 stars. This gritty novel is a hop, skip, and a jump from becoming a 4 star novel - with little effort and a rewrite of a few key pieces. Part of the problem could also have been that I like dark novels but this may have also been a little to sordid for my taste. That being said if you like gritty novels that explore the darker side of human nature this could be the perfect book for you!Where did I get it?The author sent me a copy (Part 1 and 2) in exchange of an honest review.

By Debi @2014 & Beyond In all honesty, it's been quite some time since I read a book like this - light, airy, fast paced, romantic - Chick Lit at it's finest, for sure! The author, Beth Kendrick really knows her stuff too! I stayed up way too late to read "just another page" that turned into three-quarters of the book, in the middle of the night on a work day! UGH!This book is set in a fictional scenic beach town in Delaware called Black Dog Bay. The town is fun and the characters in it are too! While this is the third book in the Black Dog Bay series, it was my first, but that didn't deter me whatsoever. Apparently these books all read as stand alones so you can read each one, in any order, or only one, and not miss out on a great story.Put a Ring On It shares with her readers the main character, Brighton Smith, who unlike her artsty/wishy-washy mother, is an insurance actuary working in the corporate world because she has a "ten year plan". She's engaged to a guy who can't seem to pass the attorney bar exam despite several attempts. They have a falling out while driving in the car and in the silence afterwards, Brighton decides to head out to Black Dog Bay to visit an old friend and regroup. When Brighton meets up with her friend, she meets the handsome and womanizing single man in town, Jake Sorenson. When Brighton receives a phone call from her ex-fiance telling her he married someone else that he just met, Brighton snaps. She overindulges in alcohol while flirting with Jake, which then spirals into a private jet trip to Vegas exchanging vows at a drive-through chapel! All the while, Brighton is getting back at her ex, snapping pictures of the whole grand affair and texting them to her ex!This book was definitely a quick read, but didn't fail to include lots of fun, romance and jewelry! Throwing in a dog custody issue along with lots of secrets that reveal throughout the book, the author Beth Kendrick keeps our attention cover to cover. In all honesty, I've never read any of Beth Kendrick's other books, but I definitely want to go back and read books #1 and #2 in this series! Dogs and love stories mixed together always have me interested!I received a complimentary paperback copy of this book from the publishers and BookSparks as part of the BookSparks 2015 Fall Reading Challenge and the BookSparks "Girl's Best Friend Blog Tour" in exchange for this post, which is my honest review and unbiased opinion.

I skipped to the end and found a dog that did not resemble the cover model. The romance was cute, with funny scenes and catchy dialog. There was no need to put a dog on the cover to find readers. This was a romantic comedy, well done for that genre. (The Audio versions had completely different cover than print and kindle.)

By writeoncindy A sure way to get me to read a novel and more often than not, fall in love with it, is to put a sweet looking puppy on the cover. Author, Beth Kendrick did that with her book, THE LUCKY DOG MATCHMAKING SERVICE and she does it again with her latest novel, PUT A RING ON IT (New American Library). I'd think it was a gimmick to get readers to buy her books, but she always delivers with fabulous characters and a romantic story that keeps you flipping through the pages wanting to read more."Look at his face.""Look at his eyes.""Look at his hair.""Look at his watch," Brighton squinted, trying to discern the details in the dim lighting. "Is that ... ?""That is Jake Sorenson." Lila waved to the bartender, who slammed down her stainless steel cocktail shaker and motioned them closer. "Designated rebound guy for all the newly single women."Brighton couldn't take her eyes off off the designed rebound guy's wrist. "Incredible."Brighton Smith isn't like all women. She's not attracted to Jake Sorenson because he's walking-dessert for eyes to feast on. She wants to fix his antique 1953 Patek Philippe watch. Brighton shows up in Black Dog Bay, Delaware after having a fight with her fiancé. She's less than impressed by Jake's winning ways, until she learns her fiancé, Colin is dumping her and marrying a woman he just met. This throws the insurance actuary, adverse to any kind of risk into a tailspin - where any alcohol not tied down is up for grabs. She and Jake impulsively hop his private jet for a quickie marriage in Las Vegas - returning return to Black Dog Bay wondering, what the hell did they just do?This is a romantic comedy, so of course, it's fun, kind of sad at times, then happy, and you know how it ends. But with a writer like Beth Kendrick, the narrative is delightful! Beth's signature breezy dialogue seems so effortless, unless you've ever tried to write dialogue, then you know, how hard she has worked, to master her technique. PUT A RING ON IT is a delicious must read! For all things BETH, go to www.bethkendrick.com She's also on Facebook and twitter. Thanks to BookSparksStudio www.booksparks.com and New American Library for providing a copy of PUT A RING ON IT, so we can give away a copy to one lucky winner.
