From the author of The Clockwork Dagger comes an exciting novella set in the same world…

After being rescued by Octavia Leander from the slums of Caskentia, Rivka Stout is adjusting to her new life in Tamarania. But it’s hard for a blossoming machinist like herself to fit in with proper society, and she’d much rather be tinkering with her tools than at a hoity-toity party any day.

When Rivka stumbles into a laboratory run by the powerful Balthazar Cody, she also discovers a sinister plot involving chimera gremlins and the violent Arena game Warriors. The innocent creatures will end up hurt, or worse, if Rivka doesn’t find a way to stop Mr. Cody. And to do that means she will have to rely on some unexpected new friends.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellent Sequel By William Bentrim This book follows The Clockwork Dagger, The Clockwork Crown and The Deepest Poison, all of which I enjoyed. I thought the first book was a steampunk romance. Octavia Leander was the featured character in those books. This book follows the adventures of Octavia's romantic interest Alonzo Garret, younger sister Tatiana and a friend of Octavia and Alonzo, the mechanic Rivka.Gremlin's are bat like creations of magic and technology. The creator, Mr. Cody, had no interest in the fact that his creatures had developed into thinking animals. His primary purpose seemed to be to create them to fight in his gladiatorial arena. The two young ladies, Rivka and Tatiana initiate a quest to stop Mr. Cody and emancipate the Gremlins for very diverse reasons. Rivka is very likeable and Tatiana not so much. (I throw that in for a vocal critic of the idea that likeability of characters should not enter into the likeability of books. )

A worthy addition to the Clockwork Dagger universe By Jeremy Brett Beth Cato's "Wings of Sorrow and Bone", a novella set in her magical Clockwork Dagger universe, is written on a smaller scale than the two novels, but is equally as exquisite. Cato has chosen to tell the relatively simple story of Rivka and Tatiana, who become enmeshed in an ethical and humane struggle (accompanied by some clever subterfuge) to free a captive group of gremlins. The creatures are the subject of cruel experimentation designed to assimilate them into immensely large and strong arena fighters - Cato charges her two leads with moral dilemmas (science and progress vs. compassion and decency, the question of whether others might suffer for our entertainment) that are thoughtful reflections of those we face in our own society, which brings a particular depth and thoughtfulness that other steampunk adventures may lack. Furthermore, she skillfully continues a theme that recurs throughout the Clockwork Dagger novels, that of the social and physical traumas and repercussions in the aftermath of war. The world of which Cato writes is a damaged one, and the shadow of war and death continues to loom over the societies she has created. This adds an extra dimension of sadness to the story, but in no way detracts from the beauty and cleverness of Cato's writing or the fun she clearly had with her well-drawn characters.

With her recent Nebula nomination I had to ask for an egalley on this one. Luckily I get free books from Harper Voyager in return for honest reviews as I'm part of their Super Reader program, so that works out nicely. :) Cato's novel A Clockwork Dagger was my introduction to her work, and I immediately fell in love with the gremlin Leaf and hoped to see more. Well, now we have a novella where the plight of the gremlins is the plot and great female leads to tell the story. Beth creates human characters that you would recognize on the street, everyday people who happen to be in extraordinary situations. (Ok, anything magic would be extraordinary to us, but c'mon!) ;) And that's really why I think this novella has received such a prestigious nomination: quality deserves recognition, and Cato has quality in spades.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. This book is FIRE! By Valerie A. Vazquez Got to say that was a fantastic book! The characters were very well developed, Tiana and Kurt both were very strong characters and were just made for each other. I really liked the steamy love scenes as well as the banter between Kurt and Tiana. You almost felt like they knew each other for years the way they spoke to each other. The plot was a very twisty one, and just when I through things were ok it took another turn. Don't worry they got their happy ending but they had to go through a lot to get them there. And damn the villian in this book was so sneaky, I mean very well done I totally found myself cursing them lol. Overall the story was a good one and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a good quality IR romance. Thanks for the read Ms. Brown!

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Great IR Story By M.B First let me say that this IR story was heads and shoulders above a lot of the crap I've been reading in this genre lately. Some of those authors who produce these "books" should be totally ashamed of themselves, But this book gives me hope, as it was very high quality and not some 20 minute read that was just slapped together. It was long and well developed, and on top of that there was a second story included towards the end of the book as well. The first story took the cake and the second one was not bad either. Tiana really made me proud, to see a strong woman who could protect herself, even if she did need help from her bodyguard sometimes. I also liked how the romance was built up between her and Kurt as it was very realistic. Very nice work!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Twists and Turns By Mspraise1 This was my first story by this author and I read this book on Kindle Unlimited. This is Tiana and Kurt's story. I love bodyguard stories so was intrigued to read this one. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this story. The story was quick paced. I loved the chemistry between the couple they were easy in their relationship and there were a few laugh out loud moments for me. The story then takes some twists and turns which I was not expecting and when Tiana start's to testify in court, my mouth literally feel open with what she was sharing. This book had been totally engrossed. I would read more from this author.

"Another Anti-Pastoral," the opening poem of Forest Primeval, confesses that sometimes "words fail." With a "bleat in [her] throat," the poet identifies with the voiceless and wild things in the composed, imposed peace of the Romantic poets with whom she is in dialogue. Vievee Francis’s poems engage many of the same concerns as her poetic predecessors—faith in a secular age, the city and nature, aging, and beauty. Words certainly do not fail as Francis sets off into the wild world promised in the title. The wild here is not chaotic but rather free and finely attuned to its surroundings. The reader who joins her will emerge sensitized and changed by the enduring power of her work.

Forest Primeval: Poems, by Vievee Francis

Review

"Vievee Francis is a maker of magnificent, ferociously intelligent, deeply moving poems, but to me her poems are not just poems and this amazing book isn’t just a book. Forest Primeval is a sacred conversation with the reader, wrestling with the distressing angel for all of us, and demanding a blessing."    –Patrick Donnelly

Whether following her through the landscapes in which she’s lived or the landscapes of one’s interior, Vievee Francis’s bottomless imagination continues to surprise in Forest Primeval. Who wouldn’t follow her as "her eyes scan the horizon for the promise of more," when she offers so much more here than a turn of a phrase; these poems build a world we all want to inhabit, even when times are tough, and they recall a world we’ve survived enough to celebrate in a manner that’s both dignified and primal like "eloquent tambourines" on a Sunday morning. –A. Van Jordan

About the Author Longlist finalist, 2015 PEN Open Book Award, for an exceptional book by an author of color VIEVEE FRANCIS is author of Horse in the Dark (2012), winner of the Cave Canem Northwestern University Press Poetry Prize. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Provocative By M. Amani IIn Forest Primeval, Vievee Francis provokes what feels like an intimate conversation with the reader or as a commentary on the book jacket puts it “a sacred conversation with the reader, wrestling with the distressing angel for all of us and demanding a blessing.” There’s such honesty in these poems, a willingness to be direct and risky around matters of the heart, including revenge or resentment: "When you left, I went to your swan's coop, / snapped every slender neck / in the lot." The speaker seems always in quest of truth driven by a curiosity about what drives her and what is actually going on, and a willingness to challenge her own assumptions. The lyricism of so many lines stand out (“like a sorrow of banjoes”), along with the evocative use of fairy tales and myth to address questions of male-female relationships, beauty, and modern living. The internal Dantesque explorations remind me of Frank Gaspar’s poetry; the precise clarity of thought and expression coming from deep wounding, of Louise Glück’s; and the artful, provocative use of essential questions, of Mary Oliver:“…Those with love will have it.Those without will go without. Did you think it would beotherwise?”and,“ …What kind of girl are you?The kind who wants to live, I said, and I did want tountil I didn’t anymore. But I wanted the leavingto be on my terms, so I hit my father back.”and, “From the window I considered the fall, butI was so pleased to be alive, to realize I now had you,if only briefly, all to myself. Dear blade,so what the truncated future? It is the licks I knoware coming that will buckle and betray me.”and,  “Wolf is just oneWay to there To that pain that rocksyour bones Rocking away[.]” It’s an amazing book, one I’ll read again (and again), to savor and to study how the poet does what she does.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful, haunting and not afraid of the ugly making ... By Amazon Customer Vievee Francis is one of the most exciting poets I've discovered within the last year. Beautiful, haunting and not afraid of the ugly making her words cut twice as deep. Most poets will spend years trying to replicate a work such as Forest Primeval and never come close to its incandescent, transcendent nature. The rhythm is both as blunt as a sharp point of a cliff and at other times it stops dead in its track to call attention to a small and intricate detail otherwise ignored. It is the perfect observation of the intense joys and sadness or loneliness of an artistic dreamer life and of the life of a woman in general. I am proud to call Vievee Francis a fellow woman and feminist. This book is so well worth the purchase. An absolute hidden gem. I promise you will not be disappointed.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This is a fantastic piece of work from Vievee Francis By tyehimba jess This is a fantastic piece of work from Vievee Francis!. In Forest Primeval, she covers difficult emotional terrain regarding race, gender, image, and the and the author's personal biography that extends from the rural farm life of Texas to the cold concrete of Chicago and on to the woods of North Carolina. The poet's visceral use of image and stunning insight will make you wince as you turn the page to the next poem, and the next, and the next...

Not obeying the rules can lead to bloodshed. Especially if it's through the customs worker in an Iain Rob Wright story.Spenny works at the international customs section of the Australian airport. One day, before heading out for a break, Spenny takes some candies and an orange he confiscated earlier to the Quarantine lockers, they will remain there while waiting for disposal. That's when he notices something strange.I really enjoyed this little short story. No noticeable typos, errors with sentence structure, the characters were well defined, the storyline well thought out. Highly Recommended.NOTE: I purchased this book as part of the complete set, a shorter version of my review can also be found there as well.

From the Inside Flap “Laconic, witty, and lyrical, Hall is a master stylist, yet he remains refreshingly humble and matter-of-fact about fame (his and others) . . . By exploring the joys and vicissitudes of a long life, [Essays After Eighty] offers revealing insights into the human condition—and the grit and openness it requires.”—Publishers Weekly, starred review   Former poet laureate Donald Hall has lived a remarkable life of letters, a career capped by a National Medal of Arts, awarded by the president. Now, in the “unknown, unanticipated galaxy” of very old age, he is writing searching essays that startle, move, and delight. In the transgressive and horrifyingly funny “No Smoking,” he looks back over his lifetime, and several of his ancestors’ lifetimes, of smoking unfiltered cigarettes, packs of them every day. Hall paints his past: “Decades followed each other — thirty was terrifying, forty I never noticed because I was drunk, fifty was best with a total change of life, sixty extended the bliss of fifty . . .” And poignantly, often joyfully, he limns his present: “When I turned eighty and rubbed testosterone on my chest, my beard roared like a lion and gained four inches.” Hall writes about a car trip through post–World War II Yugoslavia, his deep depression after being appointed poet laureate, his regard for garlic—and, most memorably, about his enduring love affair with his ancestral Eagle Pond Farm and with the writing life that sustains him every day: “Yesterday my first nap was at 9:30 a.m., but when I awoke I wrote again.”

In Essays After Eighty, Hall ruminates on his past: “thirty was terrifying, forty I never noticed because I was drunk, fifty was best with a total change of life, sixty extended the bliss of fifty . . .” He also addresses his present: “When I turned eighty and rubbed testosterone on my chest, my beard roared like a lion and gained four inches.”  Most memorably, Hall writes about his enduring love affair with his ancestral Eagle Pond Farm and with the writing life that sustains him every day: “Yesterday my first nap was at 9:30 a.m., but when I awoke I wrote again.”  “Alluring, inspirational hominess . . . Essays After Eighty is a treasure . . . balancing frankness about losses with humor and gratitude.” — Washington Post   “A fine book of remembering all sorts of things past, Essays After Eighty is to be treasured.” — Boston Globe   DONALD HALL, who served as poet laureate of the United States from 2006 to 2007, is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and a recipient of the National Medal of Arts.

But he shows considerable powers as an essayist in this concentrated little set. There's a nice circularity here: he begins with a description of his day--compressed into just a few small rooms of his old farmhouse. He then takes us through a group of set pieces, a newlywed drive through Yugoslavia, illnesses that stole a wife, honors (and dishonors), and then increasing infirmities that bring us back to life in the here and now. There are moments of great seriousness, but just as many that show a wonderful dry wit (his one-sentence description of Mick Jagger is worth the entire book). At most times, Hall maintains a certain distance: just as he did in his poetry. He's not dispassionate, but instead he's leaving room for the readers to experience their own emotions--to inhabit the world with him. This is not what you might expect from a valedictory, but it shows a real generosity. He's not preparing to die. Instead he's learning to live in a smaller world.I'm now at the boundary between late middle age and whatever we might call the next stage. Most of Hall's experience of old age lies in front of me (let's hope). But much of what I see in my ancient parents and their diminishing circle is well-described here. It's an interesting land of hope, disappointment and grace.

A fresh old voice (and a beautiful little book) By julesinrose This is a wonderful (but slim) collection of essays; Donald Hall's musings on his past and present. He is (obviously) in his eighties, and his voice is clear. In our youth obsessed culture, we need to hear more from the old and for that alone I am glad for this book.I don't appreciate reading synopses of books, so I won't write one, and anyway, this volume is thin enough that telling you much about it would spoil the fun of reading. I came to it fresh, not having read him before (indeed), and found it a wonderful read. Mr. Hall's style is spare, pointedly witty, and often wise.I read this book on an afternoon where we had no power in our home in Maine; I read bits aloud to my husband. We're in our late fifties and live in a town where we are on the younger side of middle and old age. So, reading this spoke to much of our condition. So, we (not just I) enjoyed Mr. Hall's sharing of his life and memories, and sharing his gratitude for that life, both past and present. Even more, I enjoyed that he did so without veering into either sweet sentimentality or the (terribly overdone) stance of an old curmudgeon. He has led a good and robust life and still does, though now from a wheelchair. There's no self pity in that; the life of his mind is rich indeed, and he had led a fairly charmed and privileged life before (and I suppose he still does). We need to understand the richness of simply looking out a window. Mr. Hall tells us about this without preaching it. He may be an old man, but his voice sounds totally fresh. He is simply telling us what life has been and is for him. He is a writer, so he writes it. And anyway, this isn't a self help book.I've written enough; I'm not a writer, but Mr. Hall certainly is.In all, I felt I'd spent an afternoon with someone I'm glad I met. Hall's beautiful writing was a pleasure to read and I can not recommend a book more highly. Now I'll go back and read what came before.

Amazing and tells the truth without apology. I would recommend this book to anyone, but particularly the young so they can see "inside" aging. I would recommend it to the elderly so they will know they are not alone and don't just imagine things that are said, happening and done to them.I'm putting this on my all time favorite books shelf along with The Secret Garden and John Steinbeck's writings.

Kissing Cooper: Heroes of Henderson ~ Christmas Quickie, by Liz Kelly

About the Author Growing up every summer in a place where dancing and romancing are literally part of its theme song, Liz Kelly can't help but be a romantic at heart. And since her favorite author, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss wrote some of the world's greatest romances, she's just trying to give the world a little more of that. (Okay, maybe a little sexier that, but we are now in a new millennium after all.) A graduate of Wake Forest University, where she met her handsome golf-addicted husband, (who is now sporting dark glasses everywhere he goes) Liz is a mother of two grown sons (also sporting dark glasses) and a miniature Labradoodle named Isabelle. They split their time between The Windy City of Chicago and the Fountain of Youth, a.k.a. Naples, FL where dancing and romancing continues on ad infinitum.

Certainly wasn't sure what to expect from my first book by Liz Kelly, and I know for a fact it will not be the last.Since others will give you a summary about the story, I will tell you what I liked about Kissing Cooper. First, it's not about YA but about a couple in their 30s who broke up 12 years ago, each hurt by that break up. Secondly, their characters were fully developed in a short time . Third, with just a few sentences, you got to know the secondary characters , who are all different from each other, but not less likable. Fourth is the fact that I was wanted to go to Henderson and spend some time there. I want to read the rest of the series. You will enjoy every minute of the book. Thank you Ms Kelly for a great read!

Collection One includes: Ava Stone’s Lady Patience’s Christmas Kitten ~ Lady Patience Post is about to lose the one thing she really wants for Christmas – the sweetest kitten in all the world. But unless she can figure out a way to save the little ball of fluff, her brother will toss the cat unceremoniously out into the snow. Luckily, a summons from the Duke of Danby arrives at the perfect time for a feline reprieve. Now if only the little Angora can behave himself in Yorkshire over the holidays so she can devise the perfect plan to keep him... Doctor Matthew Campion was not part of the plan. But after he treats Patience for an infected kitten bite, she can’t help falling completely in love with the handsome and thoughtful doctor. But will her family and the duke approve? Rose Gordon’s Mistletoe and Michaelmas ~ The last thing Daphne Cavanaugh wants to do is marry—well, perhaps not the last thing, but it's certainly not at the top of her list, especially if it's only to get her out of her guardian's hair… * Aaron Lentz has faith in marriage—for other people, that is. Having been betrayed and made a fool once before, he has no inclination to walk down the aisle… * But perhaps a sprig of mistletoe, a dash of fate and a shameless, meddling family (even in the form of an ancient duke), Michaelmas, 1816 might bring about a future they never expected. Lily George’s A Christmas Courtship ~ Anthony Carew, Earl of Bexley, is the unwitting object of scandal when his betrothed elopes with another man. While Bexley is all too happy to return to a quiet life of farming, his formidable grandmother, along with her brother, the Duke of Danby, have different plans. To quiet gossip and fulfill his duty as the eldest son, he must find a wife, and soon. * Shy Rosamond Hughes has secretly been in love with Bexley’s younger brother for years, and she is encouraged by his sisters to sweep the wandering younger son off his feet when he returns home for the holidays. What better way to hone her meager flirting skills than by practicing on their recently jilted brother, Bexley? * In her quest to follow her heart, Rosamond accompanies the Carews to Christmas at Danby Castle. After a few magical days, she finds that the man she adores is the man she’s been pretending to flirt with all along. Now it only remains for the young lady to convince the farmer to take a wife.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The Duke of Danby is at it again! By Dee Foster Awww, the commanding Duke of Danby. Any book that involves this meddlesome Duke is bound to be worth reading & The Duke’s Christmas Greetings did not disappoint. From Ava Stone’s Lady Patience’s Christmas Kitten (which has 1 of the triplets from One More Haunted Evening – another great book) to Rose Gordon’s Mistletoe and Michaelmas to Lily George’s A Christmas Courtship the Duke is quite busy.A great granddaughter trying to save her kitten, a doctor who believes himself unworthy, the sister-in-law of a grandson who doesn’t necessarily want to marry, a vicar who only believes in marriage for anyone but himself, a great nephew who’s been jilted & only wants to be left alone to tend to his land and a good family friend who loves the wrong brother. Leave it to Ms. Stone, Ms. Gordon & Ms. George to make sure the Duke has his hands full & to provide readers with laughter & hope. Wouldn’t miss reading these short stories & definitely look forward to the next set!

The Dukes Christmas Greetings By Amazon Customer This book contains 3 stories, centred around The Duke of Danbys Christmas house party, and I absolutely adored each story in this book. A great easy read, no need to have read other stories from the previous series or by the authors, but it was great meeting characters that I have meet in other books, by these authors. A fun read with a bit of Christmas spirit :)

By Carrie Renteria Ellie Danes and Lily Knight never fail to amaze me with their brilliant storyline's and amazing talent.Hunt's Desire Vol. 3 was an incredible ending to this amazing series. This volume is so full of emotion you really feel for Caleb and everything that he goes through. The author's really give you that character you love to hate in Megan from the moment they introduced her in book two. She's been the character that you despise the entire time and it's no different in this book. I love how all of the mystery and intrigue surrounding the Hunt Family is tied up in a neat little bow and cleared up in the end. This book does leave it open for more stories with Caleb and Skye so I'm hopeful that we will see more of them in the future.

Until that point I felt something for the H/h characters, I felt like they were connecting and I could see progression in the relationship. Then chapter 5 and Megan came along and Caleb's actions totally ruined him as a hero to me. He was still just a selfish cheat and liar. I was disgusted and just felt bad for Skye. That is where the story was lost on me. And for Rosie to push him towards her daughter after the shower scene... NEVER would I forgive a man for disrespecting my daughter that way! I also felt the ending was rushed and I was left happier for Rosie and Gordan than Caleb and Skye. So much potential....

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not how I would have liked to see it end..... By Wolverine The first 2 books were really well put together and very enjoyable. The only reason I didn't like book 3 is because of Caleb reverting to his old ways. Yes, Meghan the ex-girlfriend was throwing herself at him but it didn't mean he needed to act. I was very disappointed that not only did he act but that he never told Skye. It was like it never happened and they get back together?!? I would have hoped he would have went after her for answers and to tell her how he felt along with explaining Meghan's lies. The rest of the story seemed hurriedly thrown together and it was more about Rosie's HEA than Skye's.

Infinity Lost (The Infinity Trilogy Book 1), by S. Harrison

From School Library Journal Gr 8 Up—Most people don't know that Finn is actually Infinity Blackstone, daughter of the brilliant and elusive founder of Blackstone Technology. Ever since her mother passed away, Finn was raised by various members of the household staff. While at boarding school, Finn began having strange dreams that distorted her childhood memories. Unsure of the truth and determined to confront her father, the teen takes advantage of a field trip to Blackstone Technology headquarters. What was originally an innocent plan quickly devolves into a dangerous melee when the robotic technology turns murderous. Finn isn't sure she will be able to piece her memories together in time to save her friends, much less make sense of what these dreams mean for her. Harrison's writing changes frequently between the forward progression of the story line and snippets of flashbacks to various stages of Finn growing up. These transitions are occasionally confusing, but usually because Finn herself is struggling to make sense of the memories. Other than the protagonist, the characters have little depth, although this may be shaped by Finn's perception of them. The plot follows a relatively predictable path that is only surprising in the last few chapters' vividly grotesque violence. The book ends in a cliff-hanger, leaving readers to assume that a sequel will address remaining questions. VERDICT Recommended for avid science-fiction fans; a good addition to larger collections.—Paige Rowse, Needham High School Library, Massachusetts

And yet Finn has never met her father and knows nothing of him other than what she hears in news reports. But when she turns 17, Finn begins to ask herself more questions about her past. For the first 16 years of her life, she's never had dreams. But starting the night of her 17th birthday, Finn begins having vivid dreams where she recalls memorable events from her childhood. Except that as she relives these events, details of her past that she didn't remember start revealing themselves. Like why did her nanny warn of her father's bad intentions towards her? And how was it possible for her broken arm to heal itself in two days? Is anything that Finn remembers of her past really accurate, or are her dreams revealing the truth? Just who, exactly, is she? With the help of her best friend Bit, Finn goes on a quest to get some answers. They hack their way into Blackstone Technologies, and try to hunt down her father. Will they succeed in finding him? Will Finn ever learn the truth about her past?I couldn't believe it but this book had me riveted from the opening pages. And the suspense keeps building up as the story progresses. Finn is a likeable character and easy to relate to.However, I was very disappointed by the ending. I wasn't shocked by the ending, because the I had a pretty good hunch what was going on. But without giving the ending away, all I'll say is that I was disappointed by it. It didn't like how Finn's character ended. And I didn't like that the book ends on a cliff hanger, leaving a lot of loose strings and unanswered questions. This book is clearly part of a triology, so I'm sure all of the loose ends will be tied up in the next two books. But be warned that if you want "closure", you'll have to commit to reading the entire triology and paying six buckaroos or so for each of the following books. The science fiction and technology aspects were handled well. The author's explanation for how the technology worked made sense from a scientific standpoint and wasn't overly complicated. However, his descriptions of the technology, surroundings, etc tended to be a bit long and I found myself skimming over page long descriptions, eager to get back to the storyline. The incessant, immature bickering that existed amongst Finn's classmates was also a bit exasperating. The repetitive "You shut up!" "No, you shut up!" that went back and forth between the boys got very old very fast and held up the progression of the story. There was also some moderate violence and mild language in this book. No sex scenes.Overall, I did think this was a good book. It was unique, suspenseful, and held my attention. If it wasn't for the unlikeable ending and all the loose strings, I easily would have given this book four and half stars. But I do think others will enjoy it.

By Bill Anderson Length: 246 pages. This debut novel is a fast-paced page turner that is very nearly a five star science-fiction gem. Since I abhor reviews that are, essentially, a condensed version of the story, and since I loathe spoilers, I'm going to speak in more general terms so you can make your own purchase decision, yet still enjoy the story as it unfolds.Imagine a world in which Apple (or Microsoft or Amazon or Google) has become so wildly successful that every facet of your daily life is perfect and has been provided by that one tech company. The trouble with such a setting is to create a believable conflict, but this author passes this task fairly well. I could suspend my disbelief.I also was surprised that this book was so fast-paced even though it had long chapters. The trend lately, in fiction, is to keep short paragraphs with cliff hangers at the end of each chapter. The writer goes against that trend with panache.Where the story is weak, however, is in character development. As a reader investing my time into a story, I want to love the heroine and despise, even if respectfully, the villain. I also want to experience shock, horror, remorse or fear when I come across a corpse. One other issue, as noted by another reviewer. Infinity Lost ends on a cliffhanger, forcing readers to look for closure by purchasing the next installment. Therefore, although I did find this an engaging, intriguing read that I could zip through in a single sitting, I can rate it only four stars.Good enough to encourage me to read the next installment, but this could have been a great story with only a little more effort.Again, this is an excellent debut novel worth my investment in reading time. Gimme more....

I was a bit confused in the beginning about the young protagonist, Finn. She seemed to be a rather remarkable young girl. This in itself is not unusual, but there are glimpses of things that should be impossible for her to accomplish. I liked that this was something new, that it did not explain right away what was so unusual about Finn. It gave me things to think about when I had to stop reading and attend to those annoying life responsibilities. What is it that keeps Finn's father in the shadows? Who is Jonah Brogan? Why has he taken such an interest in Finn's development? Those are some of the questions that kept me reading. There's not a lot more I can tell you about this book without spoiling the story for you. The writing definitely kept me turning the pages. I wanted to know what was different about Finn. This is a solid Science Fiction/Fantasy offering that was an easy read. The second book Infinity Rises is scheduled for release in January, 2016. I will be looking forward to some answers about Infinity. I hope the next book is as enjoyable as the first. This is a Kindle First Pick for October. I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

We were two hearts, two souls, devastated by the same loss. I met Beau Ryland where the red clay danced along the water’s edge, and bursts of light rained down on us. A night when the heat couldn’t be escaped. As he whispered against sun-kissed summer-sweet skin, “Baby, look up and get lost on that everlasting light,” it was easy to believe it would last forever. But things changed. My heart aches when I see him on that stage in front of thousands. I don’t want that voice to be one I used to know. I want it to be everlasting.

By Mommays4 I was fortunate to have the privilege to be a part of the beginning stages of this emotionally heartfelt book, along with a wonderful group of women and watch it evolve into a beautiful story of what the meaning of true love really is. If I could give this story 10**********'s plus I would. This book will grip your interest from the beginning and by the end it will grip your heart.Beau and Bently are an unlikely couple that experience falling in love, hurting in love, and the truest form of pure love. Bentley recently graduating from college, is enticed by her friend to attended a lakeside party to celebrate. Being more reserved and always following a plan Bentley reluctantly agrees, because her friend tells her that her teenage crush will be there. Beau, is that teenage crush. He is wanting to taking a break from his tour on the road to becoming the next big country singer, goes to the party with his friends and sister for some normalcy before going back. By a chance meeting Bentley clumsily falls for Beau in the literary sense when she clumsily trips and tumbles into his lap.          "I did the move where I face-planted and flopped down the hill into another log. There went my beer, and me, sailing through the air."     " When I landed, on Beau Ryland's lap." -Bently SchowThis is the beginning of their chance meeting. From this point they discover that there is more to their relationship than just a physical attraction. It is a time of discovery and feeling free to be who they truly are.     "Come on you gotta jump sometime."     "I told you...I got you." -Beau RylandCan true love endure tragedy? I can answer that question but if I did, you wouldn't be able to discover the beauty of this book for your own pleasure.     "There's a girl I used to know. Under the stars I gave her light and sparked a fire. Baby look up, I'm begging, make a wish on that                                                                         EVERLASTING LIGHT."I have followed Shey Stahl from the beginning stages and have watched her emerge as a seriously wonderful author.

I love to read and normally read books that take me away from reality. This book was opposite of that, but did not disappoint! It was a love story full of every emotion, including some we don't want to face but sometimes people have to. Shey did a great job capturing the feelings of her characters, good and sad. Beau is such a wonderful man, inside and out and I loved the awkwardness Bentley had. Their love story is heartwarming and shows people can get their HEA even after the most tragic situation.

It made me laugh; "No, but if you pull my hair, you better spank my ass." ~Shey Stahl This story also made me cry. This story is a story of love, healing, and never truly giving up on what love means.

In this fifth book in the ‘Worlds Apart’ Series, British Navy Captain Neville Burton’s life takes a strange twist. It was 1806, and Napoleon Bonaparte’s ambitions of conquering the known world were well under way; he’d stopped the Russians and destroyed the Austrian Empire. He did not expect help from a lone man who was seeking to bring him an important hostage. At sea, Britain’s ‘Atlantic Campaign’ was unfolding to stop Napoleon’s attempts at conquering the oceans. Their wide-spread nets didn’t catch all enemy ships however, so the French Fleets under Admiral Linois in the Pacific and Admiral Willaumez in the Caribbean were doing considerable damage. Burton’s plans to wed Jamaican rum heiress Marion Stillwater go on hold when he is ordered to join his frigate La Desiree with British Admiral Warren’s efforts to stop the French. The aftermath of a consequential battle leaves him in London waiting for further orders, while his fiancée takes the opportunity of his absence to establish a Stillwater Rum warehouse in Baltimore. Commanding a Royal Navy ship in the Napoleonic War is not Burton’s only source of peril, however. The timing of his visit to England coincides with the abduction of a dear friend. Although first being suspected of the deed, Whitehall overturns their initial distrust and assigns him the task of recovering the hostage. Burton calls on several past acquaintances to engage in a plan to thwart the kidnapper, stealing into France and acting more like a secret agent than a navy captain. Once in, they must still manage to get out of the enemy country, which again calls for his naval skills. Escaping aboard a small French coastal ship poses new problems. Is fomenting a mutiny the only strategy available to cross the English channel? Will he re-unite with his lover and fiancée, Marion Stillwater? Do the games of intrigue save the hostage? Richness of detail concerning the sailing of square-rigged ships into war, accuracy of the historical situation, and exposition from the author’s personal experience at sea should appeal to followers of Patrick O-Brian's Aubrey-Maturin Series or C. S. Forester's Horatio Hornblower. Naval Historical Fiction – early 19th Century

It is a combination of a traditional Age of Sail historical fiction and a spy novel. It has several interesting, well developed characters. The author succeeds in building an air of tension and excitement, especially in the later parts. Of course, part of that was because I kept expecting the incongruous "sci-fi" aspect of the series to suddenly kick in again (I won't tell you if it did or not). It had a satisfying ending that sets us up for the next book in the series. The author's writing has definitely improved since the start of the series, and I look forward to his next offering.

As far as tall ship fiction goes, Carrack does a very good job with the story telling. There was a little too much dedication on political intrigue this time around and I feel that from time to time he rushes through the ship to ship engagements, which are often the best parts of these books. That said, he does a very good job with character development - I've enjoyed Burton's development throughout the series. I look forward to the installment.

The plot holds your interest and I think it was well written. Enough action, adventure and sex to grab your interest. Really need to read the other 4 books first to get the complete story. Not a good standalone book.

Physicist Kate Lewis is shocked when the man she left behind travels one thousand miles to crash the physics department’s holiday party and ask for a second chance. Kate doesn’t do long-distance relationships. But she does do Ian. Multiple times. Small problem—she has a boyfriend. Too bad love isn’t a science. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ EXCERPT “What’s your rating for all the women you slept with?” Kate asked casually. Ian’s brown eyes twinkled with amusement. “You get a ten, even the first time.” “Oh!” She tittered. “A ten! I—you flatter me.” She giggled in a very uncharacteristic way and smoothed her hair. “I was so inexperienced. I didn’t even know what I was doing.” “You were open and honest, and you let me do whatever I wanted.” His fingers slid into her hair, cradling her head with one large hand. Her breath caught, but she couldn’t seem to move away. “And I realized sex is only special with the right person. Kate, you’re that right person for me.” “Ian,” she said nervously, “I-I don’t know why you’d say that. I was a dopey desperate virgin. And that last time I was drunk.” “No, you were tipsy from one beer.” His mouth grazed her earlobe as he spoke in a low, husky voice. “And the virgin thing, well, it was a privilege to be your first.” She shivered. “Oh.” He pulled back, his eyes hot on hers. “I’m going to kiss you now.” “In my office?” she asked inanely. “In your office,” he confirmed. “Why?” she asked softly in a voice that sounded like an invitation even to her ears. This was a very bad idea. But his hand was so warm and large and strong, tipping her head back in delicious anticipation. And he smelled so good. “Wrong question.” His gaze dropped to her mouth. “Ask how long I’ll be kissing you.” “Ian,” she breathed. His arm wrapped around her waist and with a quick tug made her tip into him. “Until you agree to let me give you a ten.” She melted against the heat and strength of his body, but even so, a voice in her head was shouting at her to protest. There was a small problem with this line of experimentation. “Ian—” She was cut off when his lips met hers, hot and demanding, and that electrifying chemistry that always happened when he kissed her shot straight through her body, making her mind shut down, a blissful break from its usual constant cranking. Only Ian could make her forget the world and lose herself in the moment. She clutched his sweater as he palmed her ass and pulled her up on tiptoe, pressed against his long, lean body. The kiss went on and on, and she just let go, lost in the feel of his mouth claiming hers, his taste, his scent. Nothing mattered except this heat that consumed her, made her ache and remember what they had together. He lifted his head just as she attempted to climb his body, one leg lifted and wrapped around his. He gazed into her eyes with a warm smile. “Let’s go.” She set her leg down and released her hold on his sweater, smoothing it back in place. And then she was forced to admit a very unfortunate fact that just proved her theory that their timing would never be right. “I have a boyfriend.” AUTHOR’S NOTE: Each book in the Clover Park STUDS series can be read as a stand-alone novel, except for Ian & Kate, who are much more fun to read in order. Ian & Kate first appear in Almost in Love, have a Happy-For-Now experience in Almost Romance, and find their Happy-Ever-After in Almost Hitched. No cliffhangers! Each story has a satisfying tender ending. The Clover Park STUDS Series Book 1: Almost in Love Book 2: Almost Married Book 3: Almost Over It Book 4: Almost Romance Book 5: Almost Hitched And don't miss the Clover Park series! When I first read about Kate and Ian back in book one of the Stud series (Almost In Love) I just knew I’d be seeing them again. It’s four years later and Ian is ready to take their relationship to the next level. Kate, however, is hurtling full speed ahead on the career track and won’t let anything derail her from her goals. Much as she’d love to spend more time with the ultra-hot Ian, he’s just too much of a distraction. In this prequel to their main story, the author creates a delightful romance filled with realistic characters and scenarios. Kate is representative of every woman who longs to have it all – a top-notch career and a loving family life. Ian has no intentions of derailing her career, but he, like most men, wants a bigger piece of her attention.Set in snowy Chicago around the holidays, Almost Romance is a quick and terrific read to kick off your holiday season. And I, for one, am looking forward to seeing what else Ms. Gilmore comes up with for this charming couple in Almost Hitched.

By Lauren (Romance Novel Giveaways) Ok...now I HAVE to know what happens! While this story doesn't involve a cliffhanger and is nicely concluded with a "Happy For Now," I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting the release of the full-length novel featuring Kate and Ian, Almost Hitched. We were introduced to Kate and Ian in an earlier book in this series, but this book does an excellent job of recapping their history for those who haven't read the previous book.I liked reading Kate because she was very direct. A little socially-challenged, when she needed to tell Ian something or needed to know something, she said so, no beating around the bush. I really liked that about her, and found that quality made the story progress quite nicely.Ian was absolutely adorable. He TRULY loved Kate, and Kylie did an excellent job of bringing that emotion off of the pages and making me FEEL how much he loved Kate.I read the whole book in one sitting, and did I mention that I CAN'T WAIT TO READ MORE OF KATE AND IAN'S STORY?!***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***

She is somewhat emotionally and relationship stunted due to parents who did not show affection and who always pushed her in her academic studies.Ian Farnukle is a computer genius and a definite player.Four years ago, as they both spent the summer at their respective siblings' apartments across the hall from each other, Kate gave Ian her virginity.Kate has a very strong attraction to Ian and Ian has been in love with Kate all these years. Now, Ian crashes Kate's Physics Department Christmas Party wanting a relationship. Only problem is......Kate has a boyfriend. Will Ian get his Christmas wish and convince Kate her attraction is love? This is another great addition to Kylie's STUD series. This book definitely stands alone as Kylie does a great job giving background information on the characters, but you will want to read all the other books in the series. Don't miss out!!!
