Our outbreak started with a recall of beef and pork suspected of being contaminated with the toxoplasmosis parasite. This toxoplasmosis epidemic hit around the same time as the flu vaccine season got started. Although live vaccines don't cause disease in the people who get them because they are made with weakened viruses and bacteria, there is always a concern that someone with a severely weakened immune system could get sick after getting a live vaccine. That is why live vaccines are not given to people who have a weakened immune system. People who were infected with the toxoplasmosis parasite displayed symptoms of the influenza virus. So almost everyone thought we had a flu epidemic going around. People getting the flu vaccine already had a weakened immune system thus pushing them further into sickness with the live flu vaccine. This somehow sent the toxoplasmosis parasite into over drive and caused it to wreak havoc. This is the story of my family and how we are surviving this epidemic. We live in the South and we like to sit on the porch and drink sweet tea. We use the word “yall” in every sentence almost. We have a dreaded high humidly and summers that feel like you are baking in an oven. We live life at a slower pace, not because we are “slow” as some people think, but because we like to enjoy life and the pleasures it gives. We wave at everyone we see regardless of if we know them or not and we love our southern cooking. This is our story of how we are dealing with our new world.

About the Author Ann Riley was born in Pontotoc, Ms. She currently makes her home in Tupelo, Ms. with her husband Bobby and their dachshund Riley. She started writing as a hobby as it is something she has always wanted to do. She has a full time job and writes when not working. She is an avid reader of Dark Fantasy/Dystopian books and post apocalyptic series/novels. After reading so many books and seeing so few story lines set in the South, she decided to write about a southern family dealing with a zombie apocalypse. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good southern storytelling By Jenunique "I just finished Southern Zombies: A Story of Survival and gave it 4 stars." I felt I couldn't give it five stars because of the spelling/ or word use errors (easily corrected by a second or third read through.) Another reviewer said it was full of grammatical errors, but I know it was the Southern storytelling that tripped the reader up.Overall it felt as if I was reading (or hearing) a tale from a neighbor or acquaintance; fluid enough that any born Southerner will understand. This is just the way we share experiences. We hope that those listening, or reading, don't need an over abundance of descriptors.This may not appeal to all readers of zombie fiction because of the lack the imagination needed to understand that we (meaning Southern folk) can "see" the wide-eyed, hand talking, raised brows, and sometimes, strange but loving family dynamic as shown in this novel.I'm looking forward to the sequel to this work. There's just not enough "zombie" set in the South--- and The Walking Dead can't completely fill that large void.

Its more of short story that glosses over the finer point. The author does a good job in describing what caused the outbreak, but doesn't develop anything further. They just jump into the story but don't develop the main character(s) much.

The storyline is really quite good and is very entertaining. Love the quick wit, humor, and of course that Southern sarcasm that I miss so much! I would like to know more about the characters but I suppose that can be hard to get in to with the shorter stories. Overall, definitely worth a read if you're in to the zombies, like much of the world is right now. Will definitely read the rest of the series!

About the Author Roy and Garry Robson are, unsurprisingly, brothers from the Elephant and Castle, south east London. Their father (variously a pig farmer, cab driver, haulage contractor and general ducker and diver) and mother (homemaker, cook and doctor’s receptionist with a well timed left hook) raised them and their siblings with some old fashioned south London working class values. These included hard work, respect for their elders, a willingness to duck and dive when required and a love of their city and their country. They have endeavoured, where possible and appropriate, and with varying degrees of success, to maintain the values their parents tried to instill in them. One day, whilst enjoying a beer or two, they decided to write a Crime Thriller Series. They awoke the next day and were surprised to discover that they meant it. Roy lives in Bromley and works as a Service Delivery Manager for an International IT Consultancy. Garry lives in Krakow and is now, of all things, a sociology professor. Both career choices served as a source of both confusion and humour to their parents, who were born and raised in the days before computers and sociology professors existed. Although Harry ‘H’ Hawkins, the protagonist of the London Large novels, shares some of their old fashioned values, he is based upon neither Garry or Roy. He is hard as nails, recklessly brave, confused, brash and a functioning alcoholic. Roy and Garry combined can only lay claim to the third of these characteristics.

By Cyril Patrick Feerick Crime readers are always searching for books that have fast action, intriguing characters, and a plot that pulls you in. In "London Large: Blood on the Streets" authors Roy and Garry Robson accomplish all of this and more. The story of an old school London copper that finds himself under siege in a gang war. Can he see through a high-level conspiracy and rescue his partner from kidnappers? And will he step outside the law to do so? Populated with complex characters and plenty of action this novel is the first in a 3 part series that follows Inspector Harry 'H' Hawkins. Not quite Dirty Harry, but the next best thing. Even seasoned readers will be surprised by some of the twists as they are guided through the dark streets of London.

Gripping and Fun By clintonius If you're predominantly a non-fiction reader like me, from time to time you need to dive into a novel and let the characters take you on a ride. This book will grab you from page one and keep your attention. Like many folks I tend to drift while reading fiction, but this story wouldn't let me go. Do yourself a favor and read the first few chapters. Totally glad I did.

His policing is as direct as his personality, straight to the point, no detours. Though he admits to being a heavy drinker, he thinks clearly and makes good decisions on the spot when it comes to cleaning up a crime ring. When a group of posh bad guys interfere in H's life, killing the wife of his best friend, Robbie, and her sister, H is almost thrown off his game. He goes through emotions he hasn't felt since he was at war in the Falklands, but pulls himself together, and, with his partner, an unlikely small and by the book woman, (but who would follow H through the gates of Hell, and in this case, does,) begins chasing down suspects and dealing out retribution. When he finds that his own son has been thrown in prison, he nearly comes apart, but with his partner, his best friend Robbie, and his own nerves of steel, discovers who is behind the killings and other awful goings on in his city. Lots of action in this book, characters you can sympathize with, and a plot that holds your attention all the way through, this is a book you shouldn't pass up!

By Amazon Customer I jumped right into this one after reading the first of the series, and I have to say this one is even funnier than the last. With an off the wall new character named Dianne, who sees herself as a psychic (she is the only one that does), a new murder to figure out, some additional story and character development I became even more invested in this fun, and quick whitted series. There is some new background info on the characters and we even get to learn more about Alder Vervain, which I was dying for by the end of the last one. And there was this one scene with Dianne and Amelia that really made me laugh, so quirky. Keep them coming! Orginally, I was gifted the first two books in exchange for my honest opinion. I have become such a fan!

By MS This second in Morgan Best 's Kitchen Witch series was soon much fun....I read both KW books this afternoon and enjoyed them immensely. The characters you love right away and the thrilling mystery keeps you on edge til the last.Try this book (and the first one) ,it's a wonderful way to spend your day,thanks again Mogana!

Her cakes still turn out like concrete. She has inherited a home and cake shop from her Aunt Angelica in Bayberry Creek. Thank goodness, her friend Thyme is an expert at baking and she's trying to teach Amelia.Madam Dianne, a fake fortune teller without skills, has opened a shop in town.Amelia finds a body on her porch and police are investigating why he was there and is he connected in some way to her.Early one morning, Thyme called Amelia to tell her she was too sick to come in to work. Amelia panicked because she can't bake! But later that morning, she tried. Smoke billowed out of the oven and upon opening the oven door, flames shot out and set fire to the towels on the counter! She grabbed a fire extinguisher and pulled the pin but when the extinguisher was empty, the fire wasn't completely out. She called the fire department, then filled a bowl with water and threw it on the fire. The fire was out as she heard the siren.But now, she had a lot of soot to clean up and a stove that needed checking.The mysterious Alder Vervain is now openly investigating Amelia and won't tell her who hired him. But his family has a past history that alarms Thyme.There are numerous events and clues that aren't making Amelia look good.There are crazy people like the mail lady, but good friends who are doing their best to help. Sometimes you have a friend you didn't know you had. And Amelia learns something very important about herself.Morgana Best fills her books with colorful and quirky characters that add mystery and humor to the main players. I was sure I knew who the killer was, but I was wrong. Again!I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.I feel sure you'll enjoy reading it as much as I did!

Brilliant read By Valerie Cross To Bare is book #5 in Susan Mac Nicol's Men Of London Series, this book is another brilliant read and it deals with a subject that can be very controversial about cross dressing and transvestites, and I will say this.... Susan once again brought to light another masterpiece. Susan handled this book with such grace where we actually live in the main characters head and learn the Why's on why some people choose to live this life.Lenny James aka Laverne is a very well known clothing designer with a very prestige label, everyone wants to own his famous Debussy Suits and clothing. Lenny is at the top of his career one would think he has it all ... well the one thing that is missing is that "one special " someone that he can love and be loved for who he really is .Lenny thought he found that certain someone when he met the hot sexy Brook Hunter but when something was said out of context he decided to run fearing that he will not be accepted as Laverne, the feisty famous female persona.Brook Hunter thought he met the man of his dreams sexy and oh so very hot Lenny but something happens and Lenny just stops accepting his calls and he has no idea why.Fate has a funny way of stepping in and we see this with Lenny and Brook. Lenny has decided he is going to come clean with Brook and reveal his identity as Laverne ,but ,there's that fate again and what happens next is a shock to all and I will say that Susan was absolutely brilliant in writing this scene.This installment of the famous Men of London series is different from the rest, we do get to hear from the characters from previous books and oh yes our famous Leslie plays a big part in this story and he will have you laughing as usual along with all the others.I can't recommend this story enough it brings to light so much and proves that what we look like on the outside, and how we choose to dress does not define the person in which we are.Thank you Susan for bringing us yet another beautifully written story and proving to us all how important it is to be free and live our lives as we see fit .Remarkable a Must Read

Lenny is super hot and stylish, he dresses to impress. He's a man with a big heart but frighten to love because of Laverne. Laverne is feisty and has great humor, the woman knows her fashion.I never really understood why people choose to cross dress but that's okay it's not for me to understand, just respect that it's their decision to do so. It's their life after all. I suppose after reading this book, I have a better grasp of what it entails and obviously in Laverne case, she has her reasons for doing what she does. Laverne is part of Lenny, it's another side to love and if you love Lenny then Laverne is equally lovable.Laverne will always have the haters but she handles them so well, you can't help but be impressed. It's a shame that people feel the need to voice their hateful opinions. My mother always taught me that if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all. Wise words that a few people should learn.Time to introduce, Brook. Oh may the lord have mercy on my filthy thoughts right now. Yeah he's hot- a-licious, if that's not a word well tough it is now. Brook was dating Lenny and he can't seem to get the guy out of his mind BUT he doesn't know about Laverne. Ahhh!! yes Lenny has been keeping Laverne a secret. Well actually only from Brook.Brook doesn't know why Lenny is choosing to ignore his calls, he thought they were good together.Relationships are never easy no matter what the gender. It's hard to reveal all about yourself, that part I completely understood but Laverne is about to get the shock of her life just when she was going to reveal all to Brook, she doesn't get the chance.I loved this story, it was filled with humor. I do love a good giggle while reading. The romance just melts your heart. The drama is as always a great read. The Men of London have always kept me entertained. The sex is lip licking awesome. All round fabulous story my darlings. LOL!! Laverne kind of rubs off on you.I one hundred million percent recommend this book to all lovers of M/M. Susan Mac Nicol is an exceptional writer and if you haven't yet been introduced to the Men of London Series you are missing out.

By Janice Birnie Cross to Bare is the fifth book in the Men of London series and can easily be read as a stand alone. When you meet the fabulous Leslie from Suit Yourself, however you are definitely going to want to read his story, then characters from the other books in the series pop up and... Do yourself a favour and read the whole series! Every book is a great read! It can be read alone though....Laverne Debussy Smith is Lenny James' business persona. She runs a highly successful fashion house by day and is a sizzling hot gay man out of hours. Laverne is an integral part of Lenny's psych and was created in defence of his controlling, bigoted fathers aversion to Lenny's sexuality and any feminine traits he observed in his son. At fashion school Laverne emerged and became Lenny's alter ego, running the highly successful Debussy empire. Finding a man who is willing to love Lenny/Laverne as the package deal they are has so far proven problematic. Lenny wants a HEA but is beginning to wonder if any man will truly accept both sides of his persona.Enter Brook Hunter, a sizzling hot "dark as sin" financial broker. Lenny dated Brook for a short period of time but a careless remark about cross dressing left Lenny running for the hills before Brook found out about Laverne. Brook was left confused and unable to understand what he's done wrong, and why Lenny still refuses to answer his calls.Brook has an unexpected, by either men, meeting with Laverne to discuss a loan for her business. What happens next is hysterically funny as Laverne tries to hide who she is by talking to Brook with a very poor attempt at a woman's voice. Ultimately Lenny's piercing blue eyes peering out from Laverne give the game away and Brook discovers Lenny's secret.Finding out if Brook can accept Lenny/Laverne and whether these two gorgeous men can find a HEA together will keep you riveted to the pages of this book. The answer is forthcoming amid fashion espionage, misunderstandings, incredibly hot sex and lots of laugh out loud moments.Cross to Bare is Susan Mac Nicol at her very best. A cast of characters that will have you in stitches, lots of twists and turns, sizzling sex and a very satisfying HEA. I absolutely loved it.

Nora Stone has delivered the goods yet again with her latest release, Craving Her Curves: The Obsession 2, the second book of her Curves and Obsession Series. This is a continuation of Stones's original series, Craving Her Curves: Charlotte's Story, which is where we're first introduced to Charlotte Rivera and Joey Parker and this book picks up immediately where Book One of The Obsession ended. Although this book is a spin-off of Stone's original Craving Her Curves Series, the author has skillfully included more than enough backstory for The Obsession, Books One and Two to be enjoyed without reading the first four books of Craving Her Curves: Charlotte's Story. However, having said that, I highly recommend reading every single book in this captivating series. It is hands down, one of the sweetest, feel-good love stories I've ever read. I found myself constantly smiling and laughing throughout the entire book as well as shedding a few tears. There were also quite a few moments of tension and suspense that will most certainly keep you on your toes. I just can't get enough of this story. This book is a wonderfully written contemporary romance featuring handsome, sexy, kindhearted Joey Parker, star quarterback for the Dallas Bullets and the beautiful, curvaceous, successful magazine journalist and novelist, Charlotte Rivera Parker who are now married and desperately trying to navigate the ever present obstacles of fame, fortune, family and parenthood, while attempting to maintain their continued happiness in their hard earned new life together. The constant intrusion of the media, over zealous fans, deranged stalkers, new family members and unexpected threats proves to be not only challenging for Joey and Charlotte but very tumultuous and dangerous as well.To simply say this book is only about Charlotte and Joey's romance, their friends and family is quite an understatement because it also includes an element of danger, drama, conflict, betrayal, suspense and attempted murder which are masterfully interwoven into the story. It's exciting, well crafted, fast-paced, entertaining, sweet, heartwarming and romantic. It is a delicious combination of contemporary romance and chick-lit with a delicious sprinkling of humor, angst and suspense which I found to be delightfully entertaining. This is not erotica but the continuation of a wonderfully touching, sweet and heartwarming love story. The narrative is exceptionally well written in the first person from the female protagonist's point of view. The dialogue is smart, sassy, well executed and flows smoothly. The characters are the main components of this story. I found them to be smart, funny, captivating, engaging, endearing, relatable, well developed and well rounded. Stone skillfully crafts these elements into a deliciously sweet and delightfully entertaining contemporary romance. No spoilers from me but I will say this....Beautiful new mom and savvy journalist-check! Handsome, sexy, new dad and football player-check! An adorable, now walking and talking baby Al who repeats everything he hears, always manages to steal your heart and provides a generous amount of comic relief-check! A brand new family member-check! An ex-assistant from hell-check! A mysterious pair of pink panties-check! Family conflict and a surprising act of bravery-check! An unexpected betrayal, a menacing new threat and another murder attempt-check! A missing child-check! Romance, a forever kind of love, a group of wonderful friends, a little humor, a large dose of family drama, an unexpected betrayal, a menacing new threat and a few tense plot twists-check! And another little surprise-check! Whew!That and a whole lot more! I have fallen madly in love with these characters and their lives and can only hope that we will be able to read more about their lives in the future. This series has restored my belief in love! 11 of 12 people found the following review helpful. For me, this was one of the best novels Joe R. Lansdale has ever written! By Wayne C. Rogers When I first ordered Fender Lizards by Joe R. Lansdale from the publisher, I honestly didn’t know what to expect. But, being that Mr. Lansdale was writing the book, that old Zen saying popped into my mind: “Expect nothing.”Of course, that’s easier said than done.From the brief description of the novel, I knew this was the story of Dorothy “Dot” Sherman, a seventeen-year-old teenager who worked at the Dairy Bob in Marvel Creek, Texas. Dot was a waitress there, and she would roller skate out to the waiting vehicles with trays of food in her hands. Dot was also from the wrong side of the tracks. Her father had gone out for a pack of cigarettes one night and had never come back. So, her mother had to raise Dot, along with her older sister and younger brother on a minimum-wage salary.Okay, I suspected this book might be along the lines of Edge of Dark Water and All the Earth, Thrown to the Sky, but without the nasty villains like Skunk, or the bank robbers that didn’t mind hurting a bunch of kids. The question is my mind was whether or not I’d enjoy reading it. This is what the novel had going for it. The book was being written by the great Joe R. Lansdale, who could write anything he set his mind to. So, I ordered the hardcover on faith alone, trusting in Mr. Lansdale’s innate ability to tell a fantastic yarn, no matter what the genre.When I got the book in the mail, I promised myself I’d let it sit on the bookshelf while I finished some other projects. But, that’s like seeing a block of gold out of the corner of your eye, knowing if you cash it in, you’ll give the stores a world of hurting with your outrageous shopping spree. Anyway, my eyes kept darting back and forth to the book so I told myself I’d only read a few pages. I didn’t really think I’d enjoy the story, so what are a few pages in the giant scheme of things?Well, I read more than a few pages.In fact, I read the first four chapters that night, which was about twenty-eight pages. Not much, but more than I expected. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was already cooked like a goose. Like when a beautiful lady reels a man in without him having the slightest notion of what’s happening.The next night I read up to page eighty-three, or Chapter 16.I was now totally caught up in Dot’s story because it was about life and the heartaches that often accompany it, especially when you work a no-end job and barely have enough money to help your family out and to make ends meet. However, I don’t think I knew I was an actual fan of Dot’s until she took a two-by-four and whacked her older sister’s boyfriend in the back of the head for beating up on her sibling.That took a lot of courage and a lot of anger, which Dot had plenty of.So, how does Dot learn to channel this anger? What happens when an uncle (Elbert—one of the best characters in the novel) she didn’t even know she had, suddenly appears and begins to live in his van in the front yard? What does Dot do when she meets a handsome young man who reeks of money and comes from the other side of the tracks and shows an acute interest in wanting to date her? Even more, how can Dot change the course of her life and feel a sense of pride at who she is and where she’s going?Suffice it to say that Mr. Lansdale does his job with this story in getting you to care about Dot Sherman and her plight. You swiftly learn that every action has a reaction, and that life is often about how we choose to make it, rather than how it can actually be if we believe in ourselves and go for the gold.If you’re a Joe Lansdale fan, this book is a must for your collection. This isn’t like anything he’s written before, and it’s certainly a learning experience of the best kind. I found it impossible to walk away from this book without a sense of hope for my own future. Few authors can achieve a degree of writing that actually changes lives for the better, but Fender Lizards does. Once it’s over, you’ll want to know what happens next to Dot Sherman, her family, and the roller skating girls at Dairy Bobs. You’ll also want to take a look at your own life and see how to fix it so more happiness can enter through those cracks in the wall.Needless to say, this novel is highly recommended to those who are on their own journey of life and are ready to take a closer look at its ups and downs. Of course, the truth is that no matter what path you choose to take, it all ends up at the same destination given the element of time. Or, as Mr. Lansdale might say, “This is sure more fun than rolling down a hill with a bunch of armadillos.”

A Charming Coming Of Age Story By Stephen Vincent Kempton Just to correct and clarify one of the other erroneous reviews on Amazon, this is not a Hap & Leonard novel or part of that series. The only thing it shares with those books is the author and a rural setting.This novel is a stand alone novel about a plucky young girl, seventeen year old Dot Sherman. Dot works as roller skating car hop for local Dairy Queen knock off , The Dairy Bob.Dot has to come to terms with a few issues like abandonment and rage. She longs to break out of her Trailer Park life and find a better life.But along the way she must solve a few mysteries. Why did her father leave one day to get cigarettes and never return ? And who is this previously unknown Uncle that enters her life ?The book also depicts Dot's first exploration into the world of dating plus the formation of a roller derby team.I find it amazing that Joe Lansdale, writer of ultra violent Men's Adventures can write such a quiet and touching Novel.I read this Novel over the weekend amid reports of Terrorists attacks in Paris, and it was the perfect remedy to brighten my troubled mind in these scary times. I really hope more people discover this hidden little gem.My Highest Recommendation.

The passage at the end of chapter one "I'm going to pause here a moment while envy sets in on you." sounds so southern and authentic. It is beautifully developed and paced. It had heart for days. Dot (the MC) and her family? I think I taught them before they all dropped out of school.This is NOT a horror or crime novel (which is what most expect) it is a genuine slice of life or coming of age story. It is two days before Christmas and 70-80 degrees here. I was down - this book picked me up and shook me around. I felt BETTER after I read this book. Listening to the blues (according to science) makes you feel better. I think this book is the equivalence to that effect.This book should be a movie! Seriously, someone needs to find and make a film of this!
