When the CEO of Zynx, a high-tech startup company, is found dead at his desk, determined Detective "Frankie" Ryan is assigned the case. She learns that everyone entering and leaving the super-secure building is logged in and out automatically—it would take a ghost to get through that kind of security. She enlists reluctant gossip columnist and ace reporter for the Midnight Whisperer, Josh Harrell, to help her solve the case. After all, he has his own ghostly assistant, a seductive spirit that only he can see. But can she save Josh and Frankie from the killer's bullet? A Bullet for the Ghost Whisperer is a good old-fashioned police procedure mystery with a dollop of the paranormal. Sprinkle in a dose of high-tech intrigue, a pinch of Harry Bosch, and a touch of Faye Kellerman's Rina and Peter novels and you have a fun read.

The author seemed to be doing a lot of telling whether than showing, so it was hard for me to engage. The book itself is only about 200 pages long, so it should have been a quick read, but it took longer for me.What got me interested in reading and reviewing this was the promise of a paranormal aspect to this detective story. While there was a psychic reporter and his guardian angel, those elements weren't really used all that much. In my opinion, it read more like a regular mystery story instead of a paranormal one. So if you're one who likes straight up detective stories, this one might be for you even if it wasn't my cup of tea. I was interested in the whole guardian angel aspect, and would have like to see a bit more of it.That's not to say that I don't read plain mystery or detective novels. Having a paranormal angle isn't a necessary requirement for the books I read, but even the main mystery part of this book fell a bit flat for me. Instead of just one central mystery to solve, there are multiple murders and murderers through out. It started to seem like a lot was going on, so I couldn't get attached to any specific case because the story kept jumping around.I also wasn't able to connect with any of the characters. There was little to no characterization, and all of the background characters seemed to blend together. While I may not be continuing the series, that's not to say others won't like the story. There's still a mystery to solve and murders to catch by putting together all of the clues. So if you're looking for a new short mystery to fill your time, maybe this is it for you, even if it wasn't for me.

Solid police procedural By CathyR Detective Frankie Ryan has been called to a crime scene at Zynx, an up and coming new company, whose CEO Roland Price has been found murdered. Initial interviews with the staff provide no leads and no-one with an apparent motive. As more information is gathered and Frankie’s impressions of the workforce, the company’s security system and Price’s wife, begin to form she realises finding the murderer is going to be a complicated process. Her private life is not running smoothly either. An internal affairs detective is trying to discredit Frankie and now seems to be focusing on, Nick, her undercover cop boyfriend.Josh Harrell is the star reporter at the Midnight Whisperer and as such he serves as the paper’s (unenthusiastic) psychic columnist. Josh actually has psychic abilities and can see and speak with his guardian angel Andrea, or Andy for short, who has saved him on more than one occasion.Josh is given a story to investigate about alien technology transfer and a conspiracy reaching the highest levels. When he meets with Rolf Schneider and reviews the material given to him, Zynx is the name at the top of the list. This information brings Frankie and Josh work together on another case which proves to be more convoluted than either of them realised. Another, seemingly unconnected murder, that of an extremely harsh literary agent, confuses the issue even more. When tragedy strikes, bringing together the professional and personal, Frankie puts herself in danger while digging for the truth.A solid police procedural with an interesting storyline uncovering company and police corruption. Frankie and Josh make a good team, each complimenting the other’s abilities. Frankie has a huge amount to deal with on a professional and personal level and needs to bring in outside help as trust in her colleagues has been compromised. From a character point of view, I like Josh. Initially he found his psychic abilities difficult to cope with but is adjusting to the reality of a guardian angel and Andy’s impromptu appearances. I enjoy the paranormal aspect very much. Who wouldn’t like an Andy in their life.

By Alan Marblestone Tired of all the formula murder mysteries? For relief read Stan Schatt's latest, Bullet for the Ghost Whisperer. This author has brought us a female detective, Francis "Frankie" Ryan who starts the book by being called to investigate a killing of the CEO of Zynx, a start up high tech company which is about to go public with its IPO. No sooner does Frankie commence this investigation, her significant other "Nick" a narcotics undercover agent is killed in a firefight on a drug bust. An autopsy discloses he was killed by bullets from his fellow officers guns. Frankie suspects it was not accidental.Next we are introduced to Josh Harrell, the star reporter for The Midnight Whisperer, a tabloid. Josh is also forced to write the psychic column for the paper as psychic on occasions and has a sexy Guardian Angel )Andy) protecting him. He can see and converse with her from time to time as she chooses.Frankie and Josh work together to solve both killings. How they assist each other makes for pleasureable reading. This is a type of book one doesn't wish to put down until it is finished.
