2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A sweet Christmas story! By Donna K. As simple and predictable this story was, I genuinely enjoyed it! Whether it was Sherryl Woods' delightful style of writing, or the charming rural Vermont setting, or the hunky and oh so nice male protagonist, this story really came alive off the pages. Yes...Chelsea was kind of bratty, and Beth was too skittish, but it was all part of their healing and learning to love/trust again. Very nice holiday story!

Moving story that should be ordinary but isn't By m. e. berg At first glance this is the story of an insecure woman who has never found a career, or even long term job, and a man who is looking for someone to pretend to be his fiancé so he can get partial custody of his children. I found myself moved by the story and writing and wanting them to find ways of resolving the problems.

First is entitled One Step Away by Sherryl Woods and was first released in 1994. The second and equally entertaining is called Once Upon A Proposal by Allison Leigh and was first published in 2010. I had not read either story even though I have been a fan of Sherryl Woods for years and reading something from an author new to me was a treat.One Step Away is a story about a woman who is a successful realtor in a small town in Vermont. Beth is trying to put a bad marriage and her attempt at being a stepmother behind her when she meets a very handsome pro football player who is looking for a quiet place to recover from an injury and build a new life for himself. Beth is attracted but wary but Ken is determined to win her over... and he does...until Beth finds out he has a young daughter and all those insecurities about her inadequacy as a stepmother come flooding back. Can Ken help her overcome her painful past and look ahead to the future or is Beth destined to avoid another broken heart at all costs. A predicable but lovely romance with a nice ending.Once Upon A Proposal is an equally enchanting story about a man who is trying desperately to get joint custody of his two children with an ex wife who is determined that he won't. Gabe Gannon will do almost anything to convince the judge he should be allowed time with his children... even if it means proposing a fake marriage to a beautiful young woman he barely knows but has already kissed! Bobbie Fairchild loves training her service dogs and when an unwanted suitor shows up at her door (thanks to her meddling Uncle Harry) Bobbie grabs a surprised Gabe and plants a big one on him. The scorching hot kiss shocks them both and neither one is looking for anything permanent, but the best laid plans sometimes go awry when love gets in the way. A solid romance that will have you rooting for Gabe and Bobbie to give in to the inevitable.Two great romances in one book and five stars for One Step Away.
