2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. fun, great read from A Zavarelli By Debbie Arc received from Instafreebie. And another quick, fun, great read from A Zavarelli. This one is super quick and straight to the point.Aspen Keller has been assistant to Media mogul Kane Stryker for 3 years and has now made the decision to leave for a new job, where she is not attracted to her boss. Aspen has watched Kane, fawn over constant women and them do everything to get into his bed. Enough is enough, with her resignation in hand and one last gift for him, she heads to find him to tell him in person after he embarrasses her at the company Christmas party. On the way to his cabin, Aspen crashes her car. Perfect, just what she needs, stuck with a wrecked car, in the freezing snow and no cell reception. Could her night get any worse? Yep. Kane hears her accident and goes to find the cause of the noise and comes face to face with Aspen, drunk but not really hurt. But instead of anger, he feels love. Love that he never dud anything about, but now in his cabin, he will show Aspen what she really means to him.Not enough, Aspen leaves him anyway, she just never expected the man who doesn't celebrate Christmas to show up at her parents, with his own special gift for Aspen.

It was a super quick read, the author hooks you from the very beginning and holds you right to the end. She doesn't just tell the story from Aspen's character but make you feel Aspen's heartache for a man who doesn't see her for more than his assistant. I don't want to give away the ending but it isn't really how you think it is going to go. This is a clean erotic romance, yes there is sex but it isn't racy or crude. It is sexy without going into too much detail but makes you feel hot and bothered by Kane, mmm. Sexy, tall, dark, handsome and rich, oh my. A great story!I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars. A fun holiday read that can be read in under an hour.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Awesome!!!! By Natasha S. Hill I absolutely loved this book!!! I had never read a book by Vette but I have read all of KS Olivers books so I knew it was going to be a banger... There were a few things that you can learn from this book... One... When you put yourself in a bad situation, do not expect a great outcome because that is not how life works... That it is like seeing a pile of crap, know it is crap and step in it and think it will smell like cupcakes and icecream. Two... Do not use the term friend so lightly and be careful who you tell your information to... Just because you may keep a secret does not mean the people who choose to confide in will keep that secret. Three.... No matter what someone goes through, you do not know how they will personally handle a situation... Everyone handles things differently... Hurt is hurt and despite if you put yourself in that situation or not, doesnt make the feeling any different... Four...Karma has no discrimination... It does not matter the age, gender, race nor where you are in life.... I cannot wait for part 2 of this book!!!

By Brandi Jefferson First of all I need to start by saying just how much I love the cover of this book...The collaboration of Kharma's Child between the talented authors Vette & KS Oliver is so good!! This book is filled with a story that will have you thinking you know it & have everything figured out only to be hit with one twist after another. Its like the saying goes, what goes around comes back around, so be careful how you choose to treat someone b/c you never know how it will all fall back on you. I couldn't put this book down and I CANNOT wait to see what happens next...BRAVO ladies :D

It was just another Tuesday morning when she walked into the office--young, as I suspected they all might be, another dark brunette with some assistance and enough eye black to match up to Cleopatra. And who am I? I'm Ray, the world's last robot, famed and feared in equal measure, which suits me just fine--after all, the last place you'd expect to find Hollywood's best hit man is in the plain light of day.

Raymond Electromatic is good at his job, as good as he ever was at being a true Private Investigator, the lone employee of the Electromatic Detective Agency--except for Ada, office gal and super-computer, the constant voice in Ray's inner ear. Ray might have taken up a new line of work, but money is money, after all, and he was programmed to make a profit. Besides, with his twenty-four-hour memory-tape limits, he sure can keep a secret.

When a familiar-looking woman arrives at the agency wanting to hire Ray to find a missing movie star, he's inclined to tell her to take a hike. But she had the cold hard cash, a demand for total anonymity, and tendency to vanish on her own.

Plunged into a glittering world of fame, fortune, and secrecy, Ray uncovers a sinister plot that goes much deeper than the silver screen--and this robot is at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

Made to Kill is the thrilling new speculative noir from novelist and comic writer Adam Christopher.

Made to Kill: A Novel (L.A. Trilogy), by Adam Christopher

Review

"Robot noir in 60s Los Angeles? You had me at 'Hello.'"-- John Scalzi, New York Times bestselling novelist

"Made to Kill is yet more proof that we should all be thankful for Adam Christopher and his imagination. This tale of robot noir is unlike anything I’ve ever read ― Adam’s is a weird and wonderful voice and we are lucky to have it."--Chuck Wendig, New York Times bestselling author of Aftermath "Adam Christopher has brilliantly deduced what should have been obvious all along: Classic noir and robots are a perfect match. Part Chandler, part Asimov, and part Philip K. Dick, Made to Kill is a rip-roaring cocktail of smart, sharp, twisty, cyber-pulp awesomeness."-- Adam Sternbaugh, author of Shovel Ready "Made to Kill is just the sort of exciting genre collision that marks out Adam Christopher as one of the hottest new young SF writers."-- Paul Cornell, author of The Severed Streets "A smart, rollicking noir/SF mashup. One of the best books I've read all year."-- Kelly Braffet, author of Save Yourself

About the Author ADAM CHRISTOPHER is a novelist and comic writer. In 2010, as an editor, Christopher won a Sir Julius Vogel award, New Zealand's highest science fiction honor. His debut novel, Empire State, was SciFiNow's Book of the Year and a Financial Times Book of the Year for 2012. In 2013, he was nominated for the Sir Julius Vogel award for Best New Talent, with Empire State shortlisted for Best Novel. His other novels include The Age Atomic and The Burning Dark.

By Maine Colonial In this alternative version of 1965 Los Angeles, the great experiment of doing menial jobs with "machine men" is over. Raymond Electromatic, a whole new model of machine man, rolled off the line just when the government shut down the experiment and all its products. Now Raymond is the world's last--and only--robot.Raymond and his computer partner, Ada, are the creations of scientist Dr.Thornton, who sets up Ada as the back-office brains and Raymond as the front-office muscle in the Electromatic Detective Agency. Once Thornton has passed on, their prime directive is to make money. Ada has figured out that murder for hire is a lot more lucrative than private detection, so now Ray's real job is hit-robot.But here's the thing. Even though Ray was top of the line for his time, that doesn't mean he and Ada are all that advanced in some ways. When I say Ada is the back-office brains, I mean her hardware takes up nearly all the space in the back office. Ray's hard-wired with lots of fundamental knowledge, but his short-term memory runs on a tape that he has to give back to Ada every night for her to add to her racks of day-memory tapes. He starts each day with a clean tape and no memory of what he did the day before.Ray's memory limitation is no problem for a hit-robot who's supposed to do an in-and-out kill on the occasional evening, but it's a drawback for a private detective. Still, Ray takes on a new case when that classic plot device of hardboiled fiction, the damsel in distress, walks through the agency's frosted-glass door. This dame offers Ray a big bag of gold bars if he'll eliminate Hollywood actor Charles David, no questions asked.Ray's a bit of a movie buff, so he's interested in a case that takes him into Hollywood. What he didn't bargain for is finding a weird sort of cult among the movie world's upper crust. This group seems to be planning something really big; something involving Russians.Adam Christopher's goal here seems to be to write a Raymond Chandler novel with a robot protagonist. (I doubt it's coincidence that the robot protagonist and Chandler have the same first name.) And he does it fairly well. The hardboiled dialog is there, and Ray's deadpan wit makes him a believable mechanical Marlowe.Compared to Chandler, though, this is more lightweight fare, a quick, fun read. And it's best to treat it that way and not think too much about the fact that most of the time there's not a compelling reason in the way the story is presented to have Ray be a robot at all. Or that there are way too many sentences including the words "I frowned on the inside" or where Ray or someone or something "made a sound like" a cement mixer, a beehive, steam engine brakes, a cat pawing at a mouse inside an air vent, two rocks going for a joyride in a clothes washer, a garbage truck grinding its gears, a sewing machine on overdrive, a clutch slipping and at least a couple of dozen other things. I also would have liked to see more development of the alternative world of 1965, other than just a couple of tantalizing glimpses.Still, I had fun reading the story, despite its significant drawbacks. The tone is smart-alecky, I grew fond of Ray and Ada, and the time zipped by as I read.

But don't expect a pure detective story. The protagonist is a detective, but he's also a robot, and the story is more science fiction than anything, even though there's some investigating going on.Raymond the robot does have personality, though. He's cool, observant, big, and tough. Even when he's clueless, he maintains his sense of humor. Ray wears a hat and enjoys nice clothes. He revels in sunshine and heat, which is good, since he works in Hollywood. He doesn't have a conscience, yet he's patriotic. His natural inclination is to resist a hostile takeover of America, which threatens in this book. These traits probably come from his creator, Professor Thornton, Doctor of Philosophy, who made Ray somewhat in his own image. I liked Raymond a lot.I also liked Ada the computer. She does the thinking and planning, Ray does the legwork -- an ideal partnership. I was amused by the sound effects Ada projects over the phone to simulate a chain-smoking, coffee-swilling secretary. Ray and Ada as personable non-people are the best thing about this book. But because I'm not a regular reader of sci-fi, I'm not that comfortable with the conventions of the genre. I would have preferred Ray to take on a straightforward murder case with no international conspiracy or futuristic science involved. Sci-fi fans will be better qualified to appreciate this book.Still, I found Made to Kill a quick read and a lively read. I liked the author's enthusiasm for his characters.

10 of 13 people found the following review helpful. A bit of a mess By Silea I didn't much like this book, but i was sufficiently engaged in the core mystery to finish it. That's why it gets more than one star. For starters, the basic premise is flawed. The main character is The Last Robot In The World, which should make him the WORST private investigator/assassin ever, not the best.Second, the writing is an awkward halfway between old fashioned hardboiled noir and standard mystery/thriller. At times it's horribly over-written for the latter, and at times it's horribly streamlined for the former.Third, the book feels compelled, every few pages, to remind us rather bluntly that the PI we're following around is a robot, with robot characteristics and abilities, and also a robot, in case we forgot. And last... well, it just doesn't make sense. At the end you'll get a nice wrap-up, a who/what/where/when/why, but it just doesn't work. We know why the robot PI was hired in the first place but...well, i repeat myself: it doesn't make sense.Granted, this is apparently the first in the 'LA Trilogy', so maybe the heavy foreshadowing laid in this book is for future books and not this one, and perhaps the totally nonsensical explanation for the events in this volume is part of that meta-narrative, but... well... it didn't make sense. And, alas, i'll never know, as i've no plan to read books 2 and 3.

Good sci-fi read for a rainy afternoon By V I received Vol. 1 as a gift, and returned to Amazon to purchase the second volume and am looking forward to the third. It's a great story line about a single mom who had to flee her ex-husband and is raising their son on her own in a harsh terrain on a distant planet. This is really good sci-fi writing and the characters are interesting to read about.

Great characters, fun setting, real stories matched with accessible but oftentimes surprising art. Great read and a wonderful gift for anyone who likes Firefly, sci-fi, or action comics.

By D B Ayler Good series, the relationships in the story are quirky but they grow with stressful times. This is a goodhearted, fun series that I will read time and again; certainly an interesting addition to my graphic novel collection ( now expanding into my fifth file case ).

By Kindle Customer I took a chance on this author and was absolutely amazed by the quality of the authors writing. She pulled you in and made you part of the characters lives. You could not help but share with them their pain, loss, happiness and love.I was very impressed that it was about 800 pages long. The book was not one page too long. It was a real page turner. I felt that I wanted to read more and follow more of the characters lives. She tied u all the ends so nicely at the end. There was ONLY likes in this book. I can truly not think of one single dislike I could find in this book. I read a new book every second day so I do read way too much. I have experience with books and can truly say this is a remarkable author that wrote a remarkable book!!!I cant wait to read more of this authors books!!!!Buy the book you will not be disappointed.Happy reading!

I couldn't put it down and just kept turning the pages. I became invested in the characters. Not just the main characters but the secondary characters as well. It is very character driven. I liked how they developed, you can see their growth throughout the book. The author made me feel their pain, their happiness. I couldn't help but want everything to turn out okay with them. The story developed nicely as well. The chemistry between Dean and Kayla was amazing. I could feel the sexual tension between them. The sex scenes were hot. But besides that, I enjoyed reading their journey.Overall this was a good read. And look forward to reading more from this author.

However, I noticed the book length was 594 pages so I was a little apprehensive about whether this book would hold my interest. Glad I dove in head first into reading Angel of Redemption! The two main protagonists are Dean Wyatt, 29 yrs old, who runs Wyatt House Group home for boys and Kayla Brooks, 27 yrs old, social worker who loves her job, loves the kids she's responsible for in her cases. Dean operates the group home with his brother Aiden and sister-in-law, Emily.Dean and Kayla's tale begins when Kayla has to place Logan and Matthew (Matty) Davidson in the group home because it's her last option. Dale is a tortured hero with a lotta baggage, his past haunts him and causes him to be abrupt and moody on most days. Kayla looks past his behavior because the welfare of Logan and Matty come first with her as far as she's concerned.....but there is a spark of interest during that first encounter.I love how their relationship grow and develops during their day to day, week to week, month to month meetings. I love how the author works in the insecurities for both Dean an Kayla as their attraction grows. Dean thinks he's not good enough for someone like Kayla. Kayla is certain of how she feels but is afraid of rejection but forges ahead anyway to get pass the walls Dean has built up.Angel of Redemption shows several layers of love. It's about kids through no fault of their own who end up unwanted or come from broken homes or drugged addicted parents and get stuck in a state's DHS or CPS and case workers who support them. It's about what defines a family. It's about acceptance in society. It's about giving a voice to those who need help.I thought with so many characters in the story, the characters would get lost but the author does a great job of character interaction. You will definitely root for the kids of Wyatt House, sensitive but resolute Matty, his older brother Logan who puts up a front of being a tough guy while protecting Matty and learning how to deal with his brokenness, Brayden, Eric, Edgar, Jax, Curtis. You'll get to meet Kayla's BFFs and co-workers, Warren and Sara. Kayla may come from a broken family but you'll feel the love she has for her step siblings, Andy and Claire as well as her dad and stepmom Brian and Karen. There are more characters involved but you'll just have to immerse yourself in Angel of Redemption.I'm not a big reviewer (more like lazy) and I lost a few days this week to finish this story but I'm glad.
