Lush with sensory detail and emotional complexity, Dream House is about family, home, and an architect’s journey to understand the crippling hold one house has on her.

In the months following her parents’ fatal car accident in Maine, architect Gina Gilbert is coming apart: anxious with her two young children, alienated by her clients’ grand house dreams, and no longer certain she feels at home in San Francisco. While she and her sister Cassie are cleaning out their childhood home on the coast of Maine, they stir up painful memories and resentments over family possessions. A legendary collection of historically significant letters is missing from the artifacts they unearth, supporting a decades-old suspicion that their aunt or estranged cousin has stolen them.

Threatened by the loss of the old house and its extraordinary seaside landscape, Gina finds her heart swinging wildly between Maine and California, creating conflict with her husband, Paul. To learn what the Maine house means to her, she approaches it objectively, as an architect, bringing it to life on paper. Her family’s story unfolds room by room: the darkroom from which her gentle but passive father, Ron, ran his photography business, the kitchen where her volatile mother, Eleanor, toiled under the weight of dashed dreams. As children, Gina and Cassie warily navigated rooms permeated with toxic secrets hobbling Eleanor and Ron’s marriage.

As Gina deconstructs the house, startling truths are revealed, changing family history and allowing Gina and Cassie to begin healing family wounds. Gina has the chance to search the recesses of her heart, too, discovering within her a vitalizing compassion and an awakened understanding of what makes a house a home.

Catherine Armsden's fascination with architecture was ignited during her childhood growing up among the weather-beaten houses of coastal Maine. Educated in New England, she moved to San Francisco in 1983 with her husband, Lewis Butler, where they co-founded Butler Armsden Architects.Dream House is her debut novel.

I made it to the end of the book and found myself upset that I actually endured the entirety of this story. First thing's first, after I saw the page count was below 200 pages, against my better judgement I still downloaded the book through kindle unlimited. Needless to say I was disappointed in the lack of story and character development. Then you add to the equation 1 main character with absolutely no redeemable qualities and another who is an annoying pushover, you have a complete mess of a story. I gave the book 2 stars instead of 1 because I've read worse within the last 2 months. This story just did not do it for me in any way, there was no connection at all.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Disappointed By Jalisa I love Mz Lady P but his book was my least favorite out of all of her books. It was rushed and i just couldn't get into it because of the way it was written.

11 of 14 people found the following review helpful. I could even finish the rest... Wth??? By Amazon Customer I am presently suprised that this is the work of Mz. Lady P. All of her other books are well written with stories that bring you in. I love most of all your books, but this one was not for me. I felt like I was reading a "low budget," book and you are not a low buget author. So I am going to need you to do better please!!!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Good read for faithful fans of Malcolm and Suzanne. By OLT I enjoyed this because it's the continuation of events in the lives of married spy couple Malcolm and Suzanne Rannoch. When we last left them in The Mayfair Affair (Malcolm & Suzanne Rannoch Historical Mysteries Book 9), they were still working through issues in their relationship because of the big reveal to Malcolm (at the end of The Berkeley Square Affair (Malcolm & Suzanne Rannoch Historical Mysteries Book 7) that Suzanne has been working as a spy for the French during their marriage and, indeed, her original motivation for marrying him was to use him as a source of information to hand over to the French.Well. it's ever been my opinion that they don't have a very passionate marriage. Malcolm married her because after rescuing her from danger (at least he believed she was in danger) on the Continent during the war, he felt obliged to offer her the protection of marriage. And affection, perhaps even love, had been growing between them until that bombshell. So now they're trying to patch things up and see if trust can grow again. That's where they are in their relationship. The novella itself revolves around a ball in April of 1818 that they are hosting at their Berkeley Square home in London to which all their friends and acquaintances have been invited. (And, yes, they're almost all there. It's like a roll-call of characters from all the previous books.) During the party some spies, mostly known to the couple, slip in the library window, unbeknownst to the guests but discovered by Suzanne and Malcolm. A letter is to be delivered to Suzanne's hands so that she can slip it to one of the guests, but there are unexpected problems. One, the letter has gone missing, and two, there are two law enforcement officials who come to the house searching for the spies. Malcolm and Suzanne must figure out a way to keep their spy friends hidden and also must find that missing letter. This has some interesting moments and if you like touching base with as many characters as your brain can handle that would be another plus. But I still have problems understanding the Suzanne/Malcolm dynamic. It's pretty bloodless and passionless. Malcolm never exploded at the revelation about Suzanne and their reconciliation is occurring rather painlessly and passionlessly. But then, that extremely low-key, passionless way of writing romance has always been a Grant trademark, even in the 1980s with the early Regencies she co-wrote with her mother.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. a story in which not much happens, pleasantly By MBlount Unlike Grant's other Rannoch books, this story is rather staid, and events are notable only in that the worst doesn't happen, not because it does. This gives us time to follow the progress in Malcolm and Suzanne's, and Raoul and Laura's relationships, which is sweet, but I kept expecting the other shoe to drop and it never did. If you like the focus being on relationships, this book confirms and strengthens some aspects of the varied relationships, and moves the series along in some ways. If you need or want the usual exciting mystery that Grant writes, this book doesn't offer one.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Quick and enjoyable By crowekitty2000 Enjoyable for one who is waiting for the next full book. Characters are plentiful and if I weren't a follower of the series, I don't know if I could keep them all straight although the author does make it clear who they are.

Can’t get enough Magic Mike? Let bestselling author Claire Kent introduce you to Matt Stokes, the sexy-as-sin male stripper and club owner who knows what it really means to bare everything.   Preschool teacher Elizabeth Marks isn’t exactly thrilled to be attending a college friend’s bachelorette party at a male strip joint. The sights—screaming women, half-naked hunks—are just as sleazy as she expected, with one exception: the man standing at the back, radiating sensual heat despite being fully clothed. When Elizabeth takes refuge outside, he chases her down and dares her to stay. It turns out that her mystery man is the owner—and, as tonight’s headliner, the one guy Elizabeth wouldn’t mind seeing naked.   Matt Stokes lives his life one day, one dance at a time. But as he challenges Elizabeth to get in touch with the passionate, impulsive woman behind her prim façade, she brings out another side of him as well. This girl isn’t just another pretty face—or paying customer—and Matt can’t help wanting more. Onstage, he’s used to exposing his body. Now Matt will have to expose his heart. Because when it comes to real love, that’s the one striptease that matters.Praise for Taking It Off   “[Taking It Off brings] together two unlikely but completely compatible protagonists. Readers can also bank on more going on between the sheets than on the stage, which makes for a sexy and titillating read.”—Library Journal   “It’s hot, and it’s filled with sexy strippers, steamy sex and some romance thrown in to boot!”—Thoughts of a Blonde   Includes a special message from the editor, as well as an excerpt from another Loveswept title.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Really good story By Sandy Milan This author's books are my guilty pleasure and she is one of the few that I trust enough to preorder her work. Why guilty pleasure? I read too many books to enjoy as many sex scenes as she writes. Having said that there is something real in the way that she writes them, no fairy tales as she doesn't gloss over the yucky bits:) The thing is Ms Kent tells a very good story in amongst the sex scenes. This story had me doubting when I preordered because of the nature of the main characters - one former male stripper/clubowner and one uptight waspy female. In my opinion Ms Kent did a great and believable job even when I was till doubting in the middle of the book. I felt the h's hesitance in going back to the club each time so that she could win her challenge with the H. The ending was credible and her final sentence was one of the cleverest I've read in awhile. You won't get it if you don't read the book though.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Intense and Sexy By ShanCol19 I don't usually like the whole stripper scenario, so I was hesitant to read this, but I'm glad I did because I really enjoyed it! There were some really hot moments in this book! I've read plenty of sexy books, and I've sort of started to become tired of the sex scenes, but the scenes in this book were definitely steamy and kept my attention. The chemistry between the characters was off the charts, and they were both interesting characters. Elizabeth is a woman who grew up with money, and who doesn't express herself because she doesn't want to disappoint anyone, so she closes herself off from things she really wants, but thinks aren't good for the image she wants to project. Matt is the owner of a strip club, who grew up poor with parents that did some awful things and Matt is sort of resigned to the way things are in his life; even if he isn't necessarily happy about it. Elizabeth goes to a bachelorette party at Matt's strip club, and Elizabeth is hating the experience until she has an instant connection to the hot guy across the room. Matt issues Elizabeth a challenge that if she comes to the strip club 2 times a week for a month she would begin to enjoy it. Elizabeth decides she is up for the challenge and up for seeing more of Matt; even if she won't admit it, and so it begins. Elizabeth and Matt feel a pull to each other that neither of them can deny, but they both think that they aren't well matched and don't fit in each other's worlds, so they begin a sexy, intense no strings "relationship", but of course it's hard to keep feelings out a sexual relationship, so things start to become complicated when they begin to grow closer. I loved how Matt and Elizabeth's relationship grows, and how they have playful banter with each other. They are really sweet together when they allow themselves to really be true with each other. The scenes in the club were great, and I felt the book had a good flow to it. I was interested till the very end, and I look forward to more for Claire Kent!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Magic Mike in book form, Matt & Elizabeth heat it up for a fun fast read. By Kris Diaz I received a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked ReadsAlong the lines of Magic Mike in book form, Taking it Off is a fun read! Elizabeth is from the upscale side of the tracks. While at the strip club for her friends bachelorette party she is intrigued by the man who isn't taking it off, owner of the club Matt Stokes. Matt comes from the wrong side of the tracks, with his strip club and junkie mother, Matt is not who Elizabeth needs in her life. Especially with her daddy running for Mayor!! The attraction is more than mutual and cant be denied. They cant be good together but they also cant help what they want. There were some tender sweet moments when Matt lets his walls down and some very hot scenes that are well worth the read! I enjoyed the characters and their backstory. The book flowed well and was an easy read.

The author has a gift for writing dialogue and understanding the quirks and nonsense of his characters. His humor is sometimes subtle, sometimes not. He likes to circle around and double back on everything. I would recommend this to anyone who loves a good read.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Black President 3: A Review By Nikki-Michelle Well, I'm back again with another review for book 3 in the Black President series. I must say, while this book didn't hold back any punches, it didn't get my emotions toiling like the last two books. However, Brenda Hampton is never one to disappoint. Book three picks up where book two left off. Last book, we all know someone tried to cause the president great bodily harm and it would have worked if not for the president's quick thinking.Nothing has changed between the First Lady and the First Mother. They are still at one another's throats and you would think they would get tired by now, but alas, they're not. And I cackled when Teresa told Raynetta that she probably didn't have meat in her teeth because she had a lot of gaps. I hollered!I kind of felt bad for VP Tyler. He has hatred in his blood and it all came from his rich tycoon grandpappy. I don't understand how anyone can have that much hate in their hearts, but alas, we see it and hear it everyday. The president is a gangster, I give him that. He played the American people like a fiddle and ended up getting exactly what he wanted, which was gun reform. Also, that reporter chick that he cheated with in book two got the short end of the stick, but I can't say I felt bad for her. I mean, I felt bad because...racism. But other than that? Nah.I will say the highlight of this book was the talk the President and the First Lady had near the end of the book. I respected the both of them a lot more after that. It had been a long time coming and I have to admit, President Jefferson may be an arse, but underneath the facade is a loving man as was evident with the way he handled the Michelle situation and what he did for the First Lady near the end of the book. But honey the crème de la crème came at the ending when Teresa dropped a bombshell on us all. I wasn't ready!! Stephen should have never told his mama to respect his wife or get the heck on!But something has to give. Why in heck does this woman hate Raynetta so much? It has to be more than her not wanting to give Stephen a child. It has to be. You don't hate a woman that much over something so trivial. I don't know. I can't say. Maybe we all have different levels of things that ticks us off.All I know is, I can't wait to see what happens in book four. I thought this would be a three book series, but I guess that has changed now. I hope it comes to an end soon. In the end, I give this book four pages, think four-stars. I caught a few grammatical errors which is the reason for four pages. Nikki-Michelle recommends this book.

Stephen is the second black president, but he is a little more street than any president. He is from St. Louis and you better not forget. He has more enemies than he can count. Between his mother and his wife, when does he have time to do his job as President of the United States. Black President 3 continues where 1 and 2 left off. The White House has been shaken up more. I look forward to see what happens. Bring on the next part.Too bad this book was so short for the amount of money it costs.
