Doctor Benjamin Abbott started his career as surgeon, working in all parts of the world with one goal...to bring medicine to people who would never see it otherwise. With a brilliant mind and determined drive, he quickly found himself working for pharmaceutical companies, research labs and governments across the globe. He should have been prepared for any place his career could take him. He could never be more wrong about that.... Ben's Last mission left him freezing and alone on a desolate island in the North Atlantic, or so he thought until he was captured and at the mercy of an entire warrior race. An undiscovered breed of humanoids with a thirst for battle and no regard for human life. He is quickly duped into marrying a woman who had become infatuated with him, and soon learns the price of such a mistake. The only way to keep himself and her alive is to use his healing powers to barter not just for his freedom but for his protection. As word spreads of his skills he finds he is little more than a trophy and commodity to the Joutone, kidnapped, bartered for, traded, fought over, but never to return home. Ben's only hope for survival becomes the one beast who seems to want nothing more than to see him dead. It is at his mercy that he learns there is no hope of ever seeing home again, and that the rest of his life will be a struggle for survival.

The adventures of Doctor Abbott left me on the edge of my seat trying to figure out if he would survive his encounters with the Joutone warriors and civilization. This intriguing story is an absolute page turner!! I became completely immerse and I highly recommend this AWESOME read!

By Nepheline The characters are poorly developed, the plot is full of holes, and the author should have hired an editor before trying to publish this travesty. No plausible explanation is given for the existence of populated islands unknown to humans, and the Joutone culture is poorly developed. The individual characters are one-dimensional and the author seemed to change her mind on the basic personalities of each part way through without any actual growth on the part of the characters. The grammar and spelling throughout the book are atrocious. One character in particular starts out with the name "Pierce" but has his name changed to "Pearce" before the book was halfway done. Misplaced punctuation marks and extra words are also commonplace. The transition from one point of view to another is often clumsy and which character is speaking during dialog is not always apparent.I am not sure why this book is listed under Norse and Viking, even as a fantasy book, since it has absolutely nothing to do with the Norse culture other than the main character's original destination was Iceland. Finally, the author spends so much time describing sexual encounters between characters that this book should have been categorized as erotica.

I loved it, there were a few errors (I knocked a star off for that) but not enough for me to stop reading it. I think the writer could include a little more back ground on the spirit trader, and why Ormr killed his father. I LOVED Mavis, this character totally steals the book. I Hope the next book has more Mavis in it. The little bit I got from the end it looks like it's about the kid, but I'm still hooked, please hurry with the next part of the story.Oh and there were a few too many sex scenes, I think one or two would have been enough.
