By LadyBalls What a great freaking ending to a great freaking series is all I have to say. This last book basically pics up where the last one left off.....with all the turmoil and drama waiting to be played out. I gotta say after the last book and then the beginning of this one I had serious doubts about some of these couples. My heart hurt for some of them and I was unsure what paths they would go down. But in true Meghan Quinn fashion she made me run through all emotions possible. And little by little the light and the end of the proverbial tunnel starts to shine through.I went from being just as sad as some of the characters to feeling slight hope as some of them did and then right back to despair...and of course there was comic relief from Austin....Austin who you just love to hate but end up loving...it was an emotional roller coaster....actually the whole series was. But I must say all of the issues with all of these couples were honest to goodness real issues. Not unrealistic, fantasy...just real. I think that is what kept me so rapt through all of these books was that you could relate to the issues on some level. It gave you more of a connection to the characters. While some relationships fall apart, new ones blossom and its captivating reading it all. There are still major hurdles for these guys to get over in this last installment and I wont say who makes it and if anyone doesnt but I will say that this book does not let you down and you will feel content by the end no matter what the outcome. I will truly miss these guys!

Snukis I felt like I waited forever for this book and while I am so sad to see the end of the Hot-Lanta series, what a finish. All questions from the previous book were answered. The only disappointment was the addition of a new character that I felt took away from some of the main characters. There were happily ever afters obtained for most but not all. A twist and an OMG moment at the beginning of the book set the tone for the rest of this awesome book. Meghan Quinn really knows how to tell a story

A Perfect Ending By Hannah Webb While I am definitely sad to see this series end, this book was everything I have come to love about the series and more. I was a little worried at the beginning, but in the end, I loved every second of it. There was the drama we love and humor to break the tenseness. I don't want to give anything away with specifics, but it was absolutely a perfect ending. The addition of Fallon to this cast of characters was perfect. I love her so much!

By Amazon Customer Emma Morgan's stories, the "Twelve Brides of Christmas" is a series of short stories you can read in 15 to 25 minutes, depending on how fast you read. I'm glad I'm able to read them on Kindle Unlimited and if Ms Morgan ever decides to write a book, I'd be interested in adding it to my library. Great SHORT story. Would love to see it expanded!

Summer of Awakenings:Glory days? If high school was their glory days, the outcast gay teens at the outreach centers run by Caden Fournier were screwed. For most of them, the torment they received at those schools and at the hands of their own families was enough to make living on the street seem like a better proposition. Enter Camp Pride and its devoted staff of volunteers and backers. For college students Kory Maguire and Will Cooper, the camp was a way for them to help abandoned and confused gay kids find their way in life. And it didn't hurt that the incredible hunks - ex-Navy SEALs Jacob Steele and Seth Ralston - were working there, too. Straight Kory ran into Jacob in Seattle several times and found himself having lots of definitely un-straight thoughts about him. Will had been abused by his ex-boyfriend and was skittish of all men now - especially if they were twice his size, like Seth. Werewolves Jacob and Seth have found their mates in Kory and Will. But have the fates gotten it wrong? What if Kory can't commit to a relationship with a man? Is Will too skittish to trust and give himself to someone so much more powerful than he? And can everyone put their own problems aside so that the campers can feel safe and find strength in being loved? INTO THE LYONS DEN:FBI Special Agent Devin Lyons and Russian mob boss/FBI ally Andrei Panchenko have been at each others' throats for years. Literally. They've had their hands around the other's throat lots of times. When Andrei barely escapes a bold attempt on his life, government big shot James Jacobs decides to put Devin in charge of Andrei's safety. After all, who better to keep the Russian alive than the man who wants to do the killing himself? Andrei Panchenko knows two things as fact: Devin Lyons hates him. And the FBI agent is the sexiest man he's ever seen. Forced into cohabitation, Andrei tries to figure out why the agent wants him dead. He has been nothing but honest in owning up to his crimes and kills only the vilest men who manage to escape justice. But still Lyons (who has his own violent record) treats him with contempt. In the meantime, Andrei notices a touching side to the man that he's never seen before. And THAT scares him more than any gun. Devin Lyons hates Andrei Panchenko. It's one of the things in his life that he can count on. Until he's forced to spend time with the ridiculously beautiful and sexy man. Seeing the "real" Andrei turns Devin's world upside down until he's not sure whether he wants to kill Andrei or make love to him. A common enemy of both men is determined that neither will have the chance to do anything except die. When a life-changing secret is revealed, will the resulting fallout bring the two men together or separate them forever? THE NIK OF TIMEColin Greystone has loved one man since he understood what love was: Nikolai Markov. But Nikolai is too young and Colin makes himself stay away. By the time he decides to declare his feelings, Nikolai has earned quite the reputation as a playboy and a badass. Colin spends years trying to forget the younger man, only to have his world flipped upside down when Nikolai Markov barrels back into his life. Colin is in danger and his fathers have asked Nik to protect him. Colin is less than thrilled to be forced into spending so much time --in such close contact -- with the man he swore he'd stopped loving. At 20 years old, Nikolai Markov is well known as a hired gun with a hot body. But now he only wants one thing : For Colin Greystone to give him a chance. Thrust into Colin's college life -- and dorm room -- Nikolai unloads his charms on a resistant and unbending Colin. When the two of them are in harm's way, Nikolai will kill anyone who threatens his man. His other mission? Making Colin fall for him. Can a love that began at birth survive to adulthood? Or has Nikolai's chance passed him by? THE LITTLEST ASSASSIN SHIFTERS: It's baby time!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not quite as good By Lora905 Summer of Awakenings - Will & Seth/Kory & Jacob -2 stars. It was enough that it was combining 2 love stories into one, I am assuming because these were lesser known and lesser “important” members of the overall group. That may also be why this story was barely even about them. Riley, Caden & Wayne opened up a new camp for gay teens, and at least 70-75% of this story was about the kids and the camp. Kids can be great, but when a story consists mostly of campfires, arts & crafts, and trail riding (and not the good kind) I don’t exactly think of sexy times.Into the Lyons Den - Devin & Andrei –3.5 stars. I enjoyed this story and it was very funny, all the way up until it got to the part about the hidden past coming to light, then it went straight downhill like a snowball for me. As far as I’m concerned, all of that could have been left out. It’s difficult enough to keep all of the other characters together; Book 2 will contain the MCs from Book 1, Book 3 will include the MCs from 1 & 2, etc. ad nauseam. Not to mention additional MCs and secondary characters being thrown in. So imagine what it’s like by the time you’ve reached Book 16, which this is. Now imagine the author mixing in characters from an entirely different series she’s written, because of course, all of her characters must live together in one big happy world. And half of the characters either have been named after a friend or family member, or has the same name as a character from this current series, so at least a dozen people share the same names. That was annoying. THEN imagine the plot twist where we find out one of the MCs is not who we, or even he, thought he was. Side note 1: if you have not read the entire Santorno series, or any at all, you may be upset by the oversharing of all of the characters’ lives. I don’t even know if I want to finish that series seeing as how I now know how they all end up. Side note 2: what is the purpose of not having the entire world know about and living in peace with werewolves to begin with, if you’re only going to keep letting more people in on the secret in every book? In this book, everyone in the Santorno/Youngblood squad has to be let in on the secret. It’s getting ridiculous, they might as well take out ads and billboards. The Nik of Time – Colin & Nikolai - 2.5 stars. Felt too long, especially with Nikolai rehashing everyone’s relationship info for Colin’s benefit. I guess it’s for anyone who didn’t recall all of that and really wanted to read it all again. I wasn’t happy with the plot twist concerning Colin. And lastly, for some reason, I just didn’t feel the love between Nik & Colin, partially because Nik’s turning over a new leaf for Colin didn’t come off as believable, but also because it felt more like long-time loyalty and obligation to one another as opposed to romantic love. Side note: apparently Colin is 4 years older than Nikolai, judging by info given regarding their past together. Nik is 20, which would make him 24. Is there a reason he is still in college at undergrad level? He was described as smart & a good student. And he’s not in grad school because he and Nik are in all the same classes, and Nik is either a freshman or a junior (the dean said his scores were good enough to qualify as a junior, that didn’t mean he was one). And what was the purpose of Nik’s little scene in the club? What man solves his anger issues by stripping? The Littlest Assassination Shifters – 1 star. At first it started out weird, then got weirder, and then the absolutely imperative - but not enjoyable - requirement of an overwhelming amount of suspension of disbelief literally drove me away. The addition of rogue wolves, witches & warlocks to the series was enough. Then the feral females and pop-up appearances by centuries old werewolves who "never really die", one of whom glowed like Conner, were added, but I managed. I was straining by the time the baby wolves were born, but once Riley got to the prison to visit his dad (the 2nd time) I'd had enough. I stopped at 89%, but forced myself to go back & finish. And of course there were more dead people stopping in to chat, and a new wackadoo named Killian added by the end. I wouldn’t have read this book had I known it would be like this.

First, the way it's written makes it feel rushed. That is, the pace feels fast and urgent, and there doesn't seem to be a reason for it. The second thing, which probably stems from the first, is that throughout the whole book there's this feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop. I kept waiting for something to be wrong with Alex, or for something to happen that split them up. Third, the flashbacks are a bit weird and so far, there hasn't been much of a point to them. And fourth, and this is probably a personal pet peeve, the author keeps using British words and vernacular even though the story is set in America. Lastly, these first two episodes don't deliver on the type of sex intimated by the title, so a little disappointed there. At the end of the book, the story was nice enough, although I'm not sure I would have picked up book two right away. Still, it was enjoyable and it kept me reading.

Disappointing, safe, tame, vanilla, and BORING By Tina Johnson There's no feeling whatsoever in this story, and it's all a long, drawn-out narrative, telling and explaining the relationship between Alexis and Kaylee, rather than showing it. The story starts off really slow, and just drags you through it. There's no hook in the storyline at all, and there's no tension--it just feels like one big, long, narrative cliche.I had a really hard time trying to connect with this story, because I couldn't see or feel the characters connecting. It made the relationship seem forced and fake for the sake of the story. It's very cliche: a rich, lonely lesbian who has it all falls for poor, single mom with self-esteem issues. It turns into a cliched, bad attempt at who is the dom and who is the submissive. There's no steam and heat here, like real, true erotica. The story also seems a bit dated, especially since it's placed in liberal Boston, and the idea of lesbian couples is over a decade old now, as gay marriage was first approved in the USA in Massachusetts in May, 2004. In Porter's only attempt at dramatic tension--and a very weak one at that--we discover that Kaylee's mom is a traditional, religious, sourpuss who is against gay relationships, but nothing ever becomes of it in the story. The result is overstated, fake dramatic tension. Alexis' parents are rich, liberal, progressive, and completely accepting of their daughter. Again, cliche. These are just really boring characters having boring sex, boring lives, and boring conversations. I like a realistic story, but this is just dull. It's very tame and lacks passion, sizzle and the true tension, stress and struggle of two people in relationship. This book is just two people having adventures together lalalalala, and isn't everything just so wonderful and pleasant when they are together. Basically all these characters do is go out to eat; go to a cardboard workplace together that acts as just window-dressing to try to set the story; get together and play with the Kaylee's son, Ryan; and have sex after he goes to bed. Rinse, repeat--and snore. There's not a lot of good back story about how these two became who they are, let alone making it plausible that they would ever become a couple. So this is basically a safe, boring story. There's no tension or fire in the relationship like there is in every relationship. This is all just lovey-dovey, nicey, perfect-world telling of what’s happening. There's no arguments, there's nothing that reflects what would actually take place in real life, and it really dulls the story. It's just two people having a routine (and boring) good time together, and you get to watch and be told about it rather than shown and felt it, and it's boring. Boring sex and a few sex toys later, and the story is still boring.I absolutely hate hurting any author's feelings with a bad review, because I know full well the blood, sweat and tears that go into a book. But there's really a problem here. Alex B. Porter can write, but she's not a good storyteller at all. That's what makes this book so frustrating. Porter would benefit from going back to the writing drawing board and learning the basics of her craft. I don't know who to blame more: the book was edited by Haley Torboli, meaning it may have been proofread by Torboli, but editing? I think not. There's no structure, no plot, just telling, telling, telling, and more telling in a long, boring narrative. So you have bad editing and bad writing combining to make an unexciting and uninteresting tale, which is sad, because Porter could do a lot better with the right editor, and a much better understanding of storytelling and erotica.

By Luis First off, i was having a great time to read as the author used such a easy to understand words, and a very well written plot and story. It was really so cute story indeed, sweet romance lesbian. I was actually pondering while reading that i have a couple of friends that might have the same life or story like this..I really like it so much as if i'm part of the story to be honest. Alex really have a great career and have a great parents whose very supportive;i'm trying to guess before i read the sequence that Alex's parents might not want kaylee and her son, but was so glad that they didn't. It is a highly recommended indeed! i really like it so much!

Award-winning author Juliet Marillier’s “lavishly detailed”* Blackthorn & Grim series continues as a mysterious creature holds an enchanted and imperiled ancient Ireland in thrall. Disillusioned healer Blackthorn and her companion, Grim, have settled in Dalriada to wait out the seven years of Blackthorn’s bond to her fey mentor, hoping to avoid any dire challenges. But trouble has a way of seeking out Blackthorn and Grim. Lady Geiléis, a noblewoman from the northern border, has asked for the prince of Dalriada’s help in expelling a howling creature from an old tower on her land—one surrounded by an impenetrable hedge of thorns. Casting a blight over the entire district, and impossible to drive out by ordinary means, it threatens both the safety and the sanity of all who live nearby. With no ready solutions to offer, the prince consults Blackthorn and Grim. As Blackthorn and Grim begin to put the pieces of this puzzle together, it’s apparent that a powerful adversary is working behind the scenes. Their quest is about to become a life and death struggle—a conflict in which even the closest of friends can find themselves on opposite sides. *Publishers Weekly

Tower of Thorns (Blackthorn & Grim), by Juliet Marillier

From School Library Journal In this sequel to Dreamer's Pool (Roc, 2014), the healer Blackthorn and her faithful companion Grim are trying to recover from the adventures in their first novel. Blackthorn is completing a sentence for the fey-she has to do what she is ordered and live in the area for seven years, serving the people as a healer. She's always a tad grumpy, but she enjoys the work and even tends to the expecting royal couple. At court, a visiting lady asks for help-a wailing monster is being held captive in a tower on her lands, and the curse is hurting her holdings and her people. Blackthorn agrees to help and uses her connections with Druid lore, healing herbs, magic, and common sense to save the day. Marillier is known for her fantastic fairy tale epics, and this novel is no different-the Celtic myths and fey are interspersed throughout. But the real gem is the friendship between Blackthorn and Grim-they aren't lovers, but their love bonds them together as they deal with post-traumatic stress disorder in their own ways. Their stories are what will make this series a hit with fantasy readers. Marillier's adult novel Daughter of the Forest (Tor, 2000) won the Alex Award in 2001, and her young adult novels Shadowfell (2012) and Wildwood Dancing (2007, both Knopf) are popular with teens. VERDICT Give this novel to young adults who love fairy tales and female heroes.-Sarah Hill, Lake Land College, Mattoon, ILα(c) Copyright 2011. By Jessica@RabidReads Last year in DREAMER'S POOL we met Blackthorn and Grim, who quickly became two of my new favorite characters. They were both woefully broken, but that mutual brokenness (aided by a promise made to one of the folk) was what made them so compatible. As friends, as cohorts, as travel companions.Blackthorn, fueled by her implacable hatred of the man who took everything from her, quickly stole the spotlight--not only is she a healer, a position regarded with respect, she is more forthright. She may be surly and taciturn, but if something needs to be said, Blackthorn is the one one to say it.Grim was a strong back for lifting heavy objects. He took odd jobs, performing manual labor for various townspeople, and when he spoke, he used as few words as possible.Obviously, there was more to him than that, but he was firmly established in Blackthorn's background. And he's perfectly happy there. Or as happy as a man like him is capable. This time around, Grim, still silent, still steady, burrowed so deeply into my heart that he's still there, months after I first read this book.I can't think of him without a corresponding ache.Marillier so brilliantly captured his patience, his selflessness, his calm acceptance of his perceived lack of any real usefulness and the inevitability of his belief that one day--it's only a matter of time--Blackthorn will get tired of him and send him on his way, worthless sod that he is.It hurts. Ye gods, it hurts. But it hurts the way it hurts to look at Chihuly glass in the sunlight or heathered fields in Virginia. It hurts b/c it's so damn beautiful. In TOWER OF THORNS, Blackthorn and Grim are once more thrust into the strangeness that goes hand-in-hand with fey creatures and practitioners of magic.A woman has come to court, begging Prince Oran for assistance. Her land and her people are plagued by a creature in a tower. It howls in agony from sunup to sundown every, single day. The tower is surrounded by impenetrable thorns, and all attempts to get through them result in injury and death.Marillier spins her story so deftly that you wonder if you've heard it before, but, no, that's not possible--you have no idea what's going to happen, and yet . . . it feels so familiar. B/c it is the quintessential fairytale. There are secrets and selfishness, harsh truths and consequences. But there is also peace and forgiveness and a road on a sunnier path. You only have to step out of the darkness.TOWER OF THORNS by Juliet Mariller is bloody fantastic. As much as I loved DREAMER'S POOL--and I did love it--this second installment of BLACKTHORN AND GRIM has taken up residence inside me, it's now part of me, and I will make a nuisance of myself, pushing it on everyone b/c you NEED to experience it for yourself.Tied with Uprooted by Naomi Novik for my favorite book of 2015.

Review for Tower of Thorns by Juliet Marillier By Alyssa ***Review posted on The Eater of Books! blog***Tower of Thorns by Juliet MarillierBook Two of the Blackthorn & Grim seriesPublisher: ROCPublication Date: November 3, 2015Rating: 5 starsSource: eARC from NetGalleySummary (from Goodreads):Disillusioned healer Blackthorn and her companion, Grim, have settled in Dalriada to wait out the seven years of Blackthorn’s bond to her fey mentor, hoping to avoid any dire challenges. Their quest is about to become a life and death struggle—a conflict in which even the closest of friends can find themselves on opposite sides. What I Liked:WOW. This book was really great. It took me by surprise, to be honest. Rarely is one book in a series just as good as another book in the series. I LOVED Dreamer's Pool, and it would appear that I loved Tower of Thorns as well!In this sequel, Blackthorn and Grim set out to court, to attend Lady Flidais during her pregnancy. The prince is holding court while the king is away. While they are at court, a noblewoman arrives and pleads for help; a monster in the tower near her properties has been disturbing the land for nearly two years, wailing and screaming in the tower. The sound is unbearable, and Lady Geleis wants Blackthorn to rid the tower of the monster. Blackthorn and Grim begin to uncover secrets and truths about the holdings, the tower, and Lady Geleis. Something strange is afoot, and it could cost them their lives. The first thing I'd like to say that I liked is that this book could probably be read as a standalone companion novel, which is pretty cool. I'd recommend you read Dreamer's Pool before reading this one, but I don't think it's actually necessary. This story is so different and separate from book one, and also, the author does a really good job of reintroducing information from book one that is important to know. This story was so enchanting and haunting and eerie and intriguing! It's almost like a Sleeping Beauty tale, or Rapunzel. A woman has to go to the tower and slay the monster, ridding the village of the curse. Err, maybe not Sleeping Beauty, but some sort of fairy tale. Towers aren't new to fantasy or fairy tales, nor are thorns surrounding the tower, or fey, or curses. The fantasy of this book is so rich and incredible. Marillier has the world-building down to a science! I love how descriptive her writing is, without making the novel boring or stagnant. You get a clear sense of where the characters are, what the woods look like, what the tower looks like. There are fey at work, creepy haunted forest, isolated tower, and secrets secrets secrets.Blackthorn is her usual direct, astute, intelligent self, and Grim is his usual gruff, quiet, observant self. They are a great team, one catching the other's mistakes, or calming the other's moods, or just being there. Their relationship is very platonic, and it's nice how well they get along, knowing each other in and out. Then there is Lady Geleis, who is the noblewoman in distress. We get to read from Blackthorn's perspective, Grim's perspective... and Geleis's. So we know that she knows more than she is telling Blackthorn. We know that she is hiding things deliberately. And we find out her secrets before Blackthorn does. I like how the author shares small bits of information bit by bit through Geleis's perspective. It keeps the reader guessing, and it makes us feel for Geleis. There is another new secondary character in this story - Flannan, an old friend of Blackthorn's. His appearance is quite sudden and coincidental. Blackthorn is happy to see him, though he stirs up memories of her husband and child. Flannan is a good friend, an ambitious scholar, and not all that he seems, either.Trust me when I say that this story will have you guessing and guessing incorrectly, mind you. It's almost creepy, in an eerie sense. I got chills at times, and not because the temperature just dropped drastically in the last few days (but seriously, this weather though). Marillier did such a great job with constructing the mood of this story!Another interesting and heartbreaking and amazing thing she included in this story was more details on Grim's backstory and past, and how he struggles with PTSD in this story. I don't want to give away any details, but basically, parts of his past appear in this story in an indirect way, and he suffers greatly from PTSD. My heart broke for him every time my experienced a flashback or got physically ill or something of that nature! Yet it really shows how well Marillier dug into PTSD.This story was different from the story of Dreamer's Pool, yet just as engrossing and fascinating. It has such a fairy tale vibe to it, but a really dark fairy tale, with a good ending. The ending is highly satisfying, people! And it makes you want another book, but not in a cliffhanger sense. More like a I-want-to-experience-more-from-this-world type of feeling! What I Did Not Like:Hmm, nothing in particular. This book is long? Didn't bother me, but just an FYI for those who don't like long books. It's a bit dense too, but once you're hooked, you'll not be able to stop reading!Would I Recommend It:I love fantasy and I loved Dreamer's Pool and clearly I loved this book too, so I must recommend this book (and series). If you like fantasy, especially adult fiction type of fantasy, this is your book. It's not Young Adult at all, very adult fiction, but not in a blood/gore/sex/explicit content kind of way. It's dense, but it's a great read!Rating:5 stars. This rating is very rare from me - I don't find many books that I can call a "favorite" or THAT GOOD. But this book is that good! It's even rarer that a novel and its sequel will get back-to-back five-star ratings from me. So... that's an indicator of SOMETHING, right?! Go forth and experience this series!

Blackthorn & Grim book 2 By Sarah (Feeling Fictional) I fell in love with both Blackthorn and Grim in Dreamer's Pool but this series is honestly getting better and better with each new book. I'm not sure that I have enough words to do Tower of Thorns justice but I'm going to try because I really do want everyone to discover these wonderful books for themselves. Although this book does work well as a stand alone I do think you'll be missing out by not reading the series in order, mainly because both books are excellent but also because it's been so brilliant watching the friendship slowly build between the main characters.Blackthorn and Grim have started to build a life for themselves in their new home, Blackthorn would deny it but even she has made a few ties within the community and I think she's enjoying practising her craft as a wise woman again. She still doesn't have much patience and doesn't have the best people skills but she is very good at figuring out what is going on and finding a solution to fix it. When Prince Oran is approached by a noblewoman who is in desperate need of assistance Blackthorn is the most likely person to be able to help her. You see Lady Geiléis's lands are being badly affected by a cursed monster that's been trapped in a tower near her home. The monster howls from dawn to dusk without letup and it's driving the people and animals in the vicinity mad. This has been going on for nearly two years now and Lady Geiléis is desperate for a way to make it stop.Blackthorn initially isn't keen to offer her services but an old friend convinces her to investigate, promising her it will get her one step closer to taking revenge on her greatest enemy. Grim has reservations about it but he would follow Blackthorn to hell and back if it meant he could keep her safe so when Blackthorn agrees to help Grim travels with her to Lady Geiléis's home. When they arrive it quickly becomes clear that there is more going on than they originally suspected but what remains to be seen is whether they can solve the mystery in time or whether the curse will cost them more than they ever bargained for.I'm not really going to talk much more about the plot in this review because I want to focus on the characters. We've seen a huge change in Blackthorn since the beginning but she's still a damaged young woman who is desperate to take revenge on the person who wronged her (and who can blame her after everything she's been through!). I've enjoyed seeing her character start to take a small amount of pleasure in things again though and I've loved watching her friendship with Grim develop. I'm desperately hoping for romance between these two at some point but I'm so glad Juliet Marillier is taking her time with them because they're both too damaged to find their happily ever after just yet. I was a tiny bit irritated with Blackthorn in this book because of the way she turned all of her focus onto a familiar face from her distant past. I could understand why she was so pleased to see someone who knew her before her life was destroyed but I was upset for poor Grim who was so convinced that she was going to replace him with the new guy. It was interesting to get more of a glimpse into a side of Blackthorn that we've never met before though and I did love the way things turned out in the end.In the first book Grim was more in the background, he was there to help Blackthorn whenever she needed him but we didn't get to learn much about his past or why he had such a low opinion of himself so I was thrilled that we got to see much more of him here. I absolutely love Grim's character, he's the kind of guy who is pretty happy to fade into the background but he goes out of his way to help anyone he meets and he's far more intelligent than most people give him credit for. People seem to think that because he's big, strong and quiet he can't be clever but that is far from the truth and he's very observant in an unobtrusive way. Blackthorn relies on his instincts as much as her own and I love the way she always turns to him to talk through her ideas. It's heartbreaking to see how little Grim thinks of himself and I really want to see that change as the series continues but now we have had a chance to learn more about his background I can understand why he feels that way. I'm not going to talk about what happened to him but I will say his scenes stole the limelight in this book and left me more in love with him than ever. He is just as damaged as Blackthorn but we got to see him do a little healing here and I was so proud of him for the way he faced up to his past and started dealing with his issues. There's still a way to go but he's definitely making progress. This series has a really familiar, fairytale type feel to it, Juliet Marillier has created a world full of magic and fae folk, there are dark curses and mysterious goings on but also strong friendships and some really light hearted and fun moments that just make you smile. From the moment I picked up Tower of Thorns until I reached the very last page I didn't want to put this book down and even then I just wanted to turn to the beginning and start reading it all over again. This series has quickly become one of my favourites and I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of Den of Wolves when it's released later this year.

Another intricate and finely woven novel in the World of the Lupi series By Amazon Customer DISCLOSURE: I received Mind Magic as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. No bribes or gifts were requested or received for this review.Lily Yu and Rule Turner have recently returned from their honeymoon and are ready to pick up their responsibilities to the FBI's Unit Twelve and to their lupi clans... except Lily has been forced to take a leave of absence due to the periodic hallucinations she's been experiencing as a limited but harrowing side effect of the mindspeech lessions she's been receiving from Sam, the black dragon with a shared past with Lily's grandmother. Lily is resigned to the temporary leave but happy to accompany Rule as he attempts to spend more time with, and take a more active role in the affairs of, the Leidolf clan as Rho. To that end, the couple are staying at the home of Ruben Brooks, the head of Unit Twelve and a shadow unit.A complicated set of events occur, which ends up separating the pair for much of the tale, and creates new intrigues. Not only does a conspiracy with clear ties to the government arise to separately and jointly target Rule and Ruben Brooks, but Mika, the dragon assigned to DC, abruptly becomes incommunicado. Suddenly, everyone is in danger, and all are trying to unwind the tangle of knots that links everything together. As the situations evolve, new puzzle pieces fall into place but other mysteries appear.Ms Wilks's World of Lupi series is a very skillfully written and complex urban fantasy with finely nuanced characters and detailed world building. Consequently, I strongly recommend you read the previous books in this series to understand why and how several of the events that occur in this book unfold. Moreover, in my opinion, this is not a novel that you can speed through; the painstaking weaving of the plot is intense and requires a lot of thought, but it is well worth the effort.

It amazes me how fresh and interesting each of these books are considering how long this series has been running. Typically by this point, the twelfth book, I almost expect a bit of staleness, and yet with each new book, Eileen Wilks brings a whole new challenge and ball game. It's incredibly impressive and one of the reasons I really enjoy this series. Between knowing I'll get a fantastic plot and all the many previous books allowing for such rich and lengthy amount of character growth, and I don't even need to read the description. I'll read the next book sight unseen. This time around the plot centers around Lily and Rule again, my favorite pair so I knew I was in for a treat. And the book delivered. Between all the crazy politics, Dragon happenings, a new and troublesome ability for Lily, seriously tricky situations for Rule, and a very interesting new character, MIND MAGIC had me hooked from the start. It's a lengthy book but I read it almost straight through into the wee hours of the morning just to find out what happened next. I know I'll be counting down the days until the next installment releases.Seamlessly weaving fast paced action and strong characters in a fantastic blend of entertainment, MIND MAGIC is not to be missed.

Antonio The World of the Lupi series has taken Lily, Rule and friends to some incredible places and put them through physical and magical dangers of all sorts but this may be the toughest mystery yet. Lily and Rule have only been back from their honeymoon in Paris for two months when circumstances force them to part. Thanks to the mindspeech lessons she’s receiving from the black dragon, Lily is temporarily benched from Unit Twelve—until her brain acclimates and the risk of total burnout passes but she is needed at a murder scene and is put back on active status. The powers that be don’t want Rule to go with her so they part. After Lily takes over the murder case she goes missing and insidious attacks start happening to Rule, Ruben and the agents of Unit Twelve. With the help of some old and new friends Rule will find Lily and they will solve this mystery. This book will take you on an emotional rollercoaster and leave you breathless and wanting more. Mind Magic is a fantastic addition to this series and now I just want to know - when do we find out where Cullen is?
